Insistution in Farnham in 1911
« on: Wednesday 22 April 09 08:00 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone know what 'Institutions' were in Farnham in 1911?

I have just discovered from the 1911 census that an ancestor was a patient in an Institution in Farnham. However, the sheet with her particulars on is just a list of the inmates and does not give the name or address of the institution.

Many thanks

Lyndsey

Hi,
Have you looked right at the bottom of the page of the Institution transcript?  I have three ancesters in institutions and the name and the address of the institution appears right at the bottom on the left hand side.

I take it you have looked at the transcription and not just the index.

It may be if it is not there that it just got left off, but worth another look.

Cheers

Thank you for that Margrat.

Yes, it is the full transcription that I looked at and the address isn’t anywhere on the page.

However, since last writing my cousin has been in touch with the 1911 census website and they have been able to tell her the name of the institution – it’s the Brompton Hospital Sanatorium in Frimley. It’s appears the poor girl had consumption.

I’m now attempting to find out where the records are held (if they have survived) as I’m going to be in Aldershot for a few days next month and it would be great to have to opportunity to look at them  if they are held locally!

Thanks again
