Marriage look up please?
« on: Thursday 23 April 09 01:22 UTC (UK) »

My Henry WHITE was in the 1841 census living in the household of the RICHARDS family and listed as the Father in law?
I am trying to find his spouses name?
I would appreciate any help thank you!

It was in 1851, not 1841, that Henry age 67 was living with the Richards at Bluntisham, with the birthplaces being given as Bluntisham.  Ann, presumably his daughter, was 34, giving a marriage prior to 1817. If you give full details it makes a marriage look up easier with less chance of the wrong one being given.

There's a marriage in Bluntisham in 1812 of Harry White, widower, and Mary Watts, with  an earlier marriage in 1804 in Bluntisham between Henry White and Mary Chambers, which may be the same Henry. The only other marriage of a Henry in Hunts was in 1798 at Houghton to yet another Mary, Freeman.  There's no burial of a Mary White in Bluntisham 1804-12 though. Odd, there's no burial of the the second Mary in Bluntisham prior to 1841 either - but there's a burial of Mary White age 47 at Bury, 7 miles from Bluntisham, on 5 Oct 1833, which might be her.

Thank you David from France for your reply!
Sorry it was 1851 not 41?
In the IGI my Gifford WHITE has his birth 1820 in Bluntisham his parents were Harry WHITE and Mary?
(no surname just Mary?) That makes it difficult?
With the  the burial of Mary WHITE at Bury were there death certificates for 1833 that would show childrens and spouses names?
Thank you

Hi Jenny

Do you have the family in 1841 where Gifford is living at home with Henry (no sign of Mary)?

It's unusual for the maiden name of the mother to be given on a baptism entry.

Civil registration of births marriages and deaths only started in 1837. Before that you have to rely on parish registers for baptisms marriages and burials. Death certificates, even today, have never shown children or spouses. You just get the name of the informant of the death, who is often the spouse. The burial entry for Mary White, 47, at Bury may say "wife of Henry", but you won't get much else

I will have to look in the Parish registers?
If I remember rightly there is a site that has free parish entries?
Thank you David.
