WHEELER family Mountrath
« on: Friday 24 April 09 13:17 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone have any info on the Wheeler Family who lived in Mountrath in the 1800's-emigration to New York in the late 1880's. My ancestors include Martin Francis Wheeler who married Mary Whelan. What is the best method to obtain records for births registered in the District of Mount Rath. Any information deeply appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat. Index to civil registration (free) online. Births, deaths and Catholic marriages from 1864, other marriages from 1845. Once you get the details (name, date (or date/quarter), registration district, volume and page number) you can order the actual certificate from GRO, Dublin.

Dear SeanMac, Many thanks for your wonderful census information. My grandfather Martin Francis Wheeler was born 24 April 1885 so taking into account his age at the time of the census being 17, confirms other information regarding his birth that I retrieved from ancestry.com. My father Earl Wheeler, who emigrated to New York in 1929 passed away when I was 17 so much of our family history went with his passing. Is it possible for me to retrieve a copy of the census online? Again, your help is truly appreciated. Regards

Sorry, that census is not available online, but an e-mail to Laois County Council, Library section, (Gerry Maher) might get photo copies of the Mountrath section.
