Man in his natural environment

Mann, bible.
« on: Sunday 20 February 05 12:27 UTC (UK) »

I am searching for a lost family bible. Sad I last saw it approximately thirty years ago when I were but a lad. I remember it as being very large but could not now give an accurate description other than it had rope binding on its spine. The bible belonged to the Mann family and at the time was in the possession of my grandmother, Lillian Oliver nee Mann, who lived in Newsham Northumberland.
Again I can recollect none of the entries made in it, but one may have been for Edward Mann 1880 and Robert Mann C1842, as well as other members of the Mann family.
I have not seen it following major family upheaval in the early to mid seventies and it is not in possession of the family.  Sad
If anyone has any suggestions on how to try and find it I would be very grateful. Or if anyone comes across it I would be grateful for information. Smiley
Many Thanks.

Hi there

Family bibles regularly come up on eBay ( use family bible as search words). You might recognise a picture of it...some sellers provide automatically the family names which are listed within, but you can always mail for more information.
There is also a website

http://www.biblerecords.com

This mainly deals  with  american bibles but there are several links which might help you further.

Biblically speaking (!) ,30 years is not THAT long ago. If you think the bible was left in Northumberland , it might be worth inserting a small advert in a local paper , or contacting antiquarian bookshops and asking them to keep a lookout for it.
Another website is

http:// www.abebooks.co.uk

It`s just like amazon , but only has old books..from old and valuable to just tatty paperbacks and from dealers all over the country. (There`s even a Mann family bible up for sale , but I don`t think it`s yours!) .You might be able to find some book dealers relevant to your location.

DON`T give up hope! It really is a needle in a haystack , but a bible is still something that most people don`t feel they should throw into the rubbish bin.
I wish you luck .
