Jumples Stones ? Halifax what/where
« on: Sunday 20 February 05 12:45 UTC (UK) »

Hi every one.

Can any kind person tell me exactly where or what "Jumples Stones"
is or was. I have a theory, that it may have been a large house with
a few cottages......but is it an area near Jumples Crag, Ovenden?

Grateful for your input,

Kind regards

Has it come from a census(give refs) , or another source?

There is a "Jumples Cragg" and "Jumples" Listed as addresses in the 1851 Ovenden census

Hi

Don't think this is of any help but on Malcolm Bulls trivia pages there is this

Jumples
Area of Illingworth / Mixenden to the north of Halifax. The name may derive from the way in which the stream jumps over the stones and the rocky river bed, and is used in several local features: Jumples House, Jumples Hole, Jumples Syke, Jumples Bridge and Jumples Mill
