Thomas DAWSON in Northmoor 1600s
« on: Saturday 25 April 09 08:32 BST (UK) »

Thomas DAWSON and Mary appear in Northmoor in the baptisms with their first child on 4 Dec 1687 Elizabeth - 10 children with last in 1705.
Then they both die on 17 Apr 1718 - ages are not shown in Northmoor burials.

Northmoor registers only start 1653 and there is a Thomas b1654 in Northmoor who is married to Anne and their first is 6 Jan 1671 Mary - Anne dies 1714 and Thomas 18 Apr 1718 yes day after the other Thomas and Mary. He is known as senior and the other as junior.

What I would like to is a marriage for either Thomas
to Anne around 1670
and to Mary around 1687
and a baptism for Thomas junior - IGI has a guess of 1666

Thomas senior I think is a great uncle and I'd like to see if Thomas junior is in the family.
I've scanned the CD of Northmoor but the index looks correct.

 Hi Ronlankshear,

                         From OFHS Oxfordshire Marriage Index

18 Nov 1686 Thomas Dawson, Northmoor to Mary Hawkins, Wootton at Ox St Mary Mag

I could find no Thomas to Ann around 1670

Did find this other marriage around that time and dont know if it helps Smiley

20 Apr 1674 Humprey Dawson, Northmoor to Joan Smart, Stanton Harcourt at Ox St Giles

  Hope this helps Smiley

Thank you so much Sue.

So he is from Northmoor but why oh where is his baptism. Or is he the senior and the other is the junior and he is from before 1653 - or he could be Thomas of 1654

Like Two Thomas in Northmoor - one born perhaps just before 1653 and the other in 1654

One marries an Anne unknown perhaps 1670 the other marries Mary Hawkins in 1686 but which is which

Oh yes I know Humph and Joan they are my ancestors. I am trying to decipher the 1653 curtain and see if Humph is son of another Humph and if he is son of Stephen.

Re-thinking
I was mislead by IGI submission (not an extraction) that had Thomas b1655 married to Anne c1675. So he must be the 1654 baptism and my uncle. Except first born 1671 so marriage c1670. Which makes him a teenager at marriage. Now I see IGI as a complete guess.

Thomas who marries Mary Hawkins in 1686 is from Northmoor then I conclude he is the 1654 man and my uncle.

So the other Thomas known as senior is I suppose either not born in Northmoor but I think he is - unless someone can find a likely baptism elsewhere? So if Northmoor then before 1653 curtain and if we say 25 at marriage then 1670 - 25 = 1645

Presumably not child of Humph senior else he and Margaret had 2 Thomas so most likely a child of Stephen d1658

Hello Ron

You might be able to clear up some of this mystery by obtaining the will of Stephen DOWSTON of Northmoor, Oxfordshire, dated 27 November 1658, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline  Reference is PROB11/284.  You can pay using a credit card (£3.50) and download the will immediately.

You might also want to check out the wills of Richard DAWSON, yeoman of Moorton, Northmoor, Oxfordshire, dated 1689, and Thomas DAWSON Senior, yeoman of Moorton, Northmoor, Oxfordshire, dated 1719.  Both are held at Oxfordshire Record Office.

I have Stephen's will. Mentions Thomas my son but which one. I have yet to transcribe it all. But I think I have the correct Thomas now as I was going on a way track

But thanks for the mention of ones at ORO. Is that an index you have or does ORO have an index on line I must have missed it.
Is it is an index you have can you see anything for Humphrey?
