Any information about Skeldons in the Perth area? Looking for George who married Rosina Skinley in Marleybone London. They moved to Shropshire then Herefordshire, then Newport, Wales. Love to know if George went into service in London or something, and where he was born. He was born sometime around 1840. Many thanks
The only thing showing on the IGI ( www.familysearch.org) is a birth in 1834 of a George Mcpherson Skelton, mother Margaret Mcpherson, father only given as Skelton. It was in Kinross, so around the right area (Perth and Kinross used to be one region).
There do seem to have been a couple of Skelton families around Kinrosshire as the marriages and births are on the IGI, although there must be gaps as children show on the census but do not have births listed on the IGI.
Did George's death or marriage certificate have his father's name?
When did he marry? It might be possible to trace him on the census records.
If you are planning to try and follow George's line back it might be worth investing in a few credits (£6 for 30 credits, 1 credit per search results page, 5 credits per certificate)
The census results are images of the original handwritten records not transcriptions for the most part.
Only the records of the Established Church of Scotland are guaranteed to be there (and even those may be incomplete). Statutory registration did not start in Scotland until 1855 so the amount of infomation in the entries varies up to that point, but generally Scottish certificates can give a lot more information than the English ones.
