I have some direct ancestors who married in Whatton in 1735. I can find listed on IGI the birth of one child of theirs in Whatton in 1736, then nothing for 10 years, after which other children were born/ baptised at Plungar and Stathern, just over the border in Leic'shire. I know from marriage and death registers that there were other children but I don't know where they were born.
On the Hugh Wallis index, baptism records for Whatton don't start until 1813.
So, in the 18th century, were babies born at Whatton baptised elsewhere or was the baptism registered elsewhere; if so, where?

Samuel Dyer m Elizabeth Rose in Whatton 1735.
They had a son Samuel the following year, born Whatton, then a 10 year gap on IGI. Sarjent was born around 1742, place unknown (not on IGI); Elizabeth, 1746, Plungar; William, 1748, Plungar or Stathern; Robert 1754 Stathern.
The family ended up staying in Stathern and I have access to those records; from those I believe there was probably a Mary b in the 1730s or 40s. Any more? I don't know, but it's more than likely. 5 children in 18 years would be a new record low for those days I think!
Elizabeth Rose was probably born in Whatton in 1717 but I don't know about Samuel (snr).

Mary dau of Saml Dyer 29 Jan 1737 - Whatton
I haven't been able to look at the Notts FHS CD as my computer with all that information on, died on me yesterday. It has gone off to be fixed and hopefully should be back by the weekend. If no one else has looked for you by then, I will get back to you.

Thankyou v much, Sunflower. I hadn't been able to confirm Sarjent's birth before, although I have details of his marraige and death.
Re Saml baptised 1743, does it give any clue as to whether this was a late baptism or one near to the birth? The reason I'm asking is that IGI gave me details of a baptism of Samuel in Whatton on 26.12.1736. Of course he may have died and a second son have been called Samuel a few years later; but parish records show the marraige of Samuel Dyer in Plungar in 1759. I assumed that this was the same Samuel, as other children wer baptised in Plungar in the late 1740's, but if Samuel was born in 1743, I'm wondering if he would have married in Plungar in 1759, when he was just 16, and when his family had by then moved to Stathern.

Hi Annie
On the Notts FHS CD there are the two Samuel's on there. One baptised in 1736 & the other in 1743. No other details given I'm afraid.
The burials on the CD for Whatton don't start until 1754.
