Margaret FLETCHER abt 1841
« on: Monday 27 April 09 05:24 UTC (UK) »

Looking for information on Margaret Fletcher born abt 1841 in Thornton.  She married Samuel Greenhalgh (1835-70) in Radcliffe in 1861.  They moved to Australia sometime after their marriage.  Thank you.

Hi Emjaye,

First thing I would do would be to get their marriage certificate.  FreeBMD has it indexed as March qtr 1861 Bury (Lanc) Vol 8c p471.  From that you can find who her father was and then try to trace her family back through the 1851 and 1841 census returns.

I thionk I found her birth reference too as December qtr 1841 Fylde (Lanc) Vol 21 p363.  Fylde registration district includes Thornton and the date would suggest her being 19 in 1861 as per that census.

Actually, in the 1861 census Samuel and Margaret Greenhalgh were living in Blackburn Street Radcliffe Lanc.  He was 26 and a grocer, she was 19.

Hope this helps, Colin
