Good morning,
I would be grateful if anyone with access to Besselsleigh PR's would be kind enough to check the details of the marriage of James HEAVENS & Mary LOUCH on 22nd March 1788 in Besselsleigh.
In particular I would be interested to know if James's occupation is mentioned, and whether he is recorded as a widower or not. I believe that they are both recorded as "otp", witnesses Wm. HICKMAN & Thos HOSIER.
I am presuming that father's forenames are not recorded at this date.
With many thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,
According to my copy of the PRs for Besselsleigh the marriage
read as follows;
22-3-1788 HEVINS, James Longcot LOUCH, Mary wid, o.t.p. Banns Wits. William HICKMAN, Thos. HOSIER
This is all the info that is supplied.
Thos HOSIER's name is listed on many marriage entries so
will assume he was the Clerk of the Parish.

Nick,
Further to the marriage details I listed earlier, you may be interested in the following; Marriage John LOUCH b Cumner to Mary HEAL sp Besselsleigh by Licence 1-4-1771 wits. Thomas LOUCH, John HALE Burial John LOUCH buried 6-8-1771
Whether this is the same John LOUCH in the marriage and burial I'm not sure, but if it
is then that would have made Mary LOUCH (Nee Heal) the widow who married James
Hevins in 1788

Good afternoon Alan,
Many thanks for those details. In fact you have been able to confirm one thing I was hoping for, and that is the evidence that James HEAVENS came from Longcot.
It looks very likely that Mary was indeed née HEAL and that her first marriage - which unfortunately for her only lasted 4 months by the look of things - was to John LOUCH.
Many thanks for your time and trouble.
Nick

Hallo again Alan,
Would you by any chance have a baptism in Besselsleigh for Mary HEAL, perhaps around 1750ish ?
You gave me a burial for Mary on 16th December 1803. Would the PR have given her age by any chance, which would give a more accurate idea of when she would have been born ,
I would appreciate it if you wouldn't mind having a look for me.
Thanks in advance,
Nick

Hello Nick,
Sorry to have to report that there is no entry in the baptism registers for a Mary Heal (or the various ways of spelling the surname)
As she married by Licence in the first place, would indicate to me that either she was underage or she came from a different parish.
I have looked in the Cumner PRs but no success there.

Thanks for getting back to me Alan, and for checking the baptisms.
Did you have any luck with a given age when Mary was buried by any chance ? If I have to start looking elsewhere, it would help to have an approximate idea of how old she was when she died.
Your time and trouble is much appreciated.
Nick

Nick,
Sorry to disappoint you but I didn't give a burial date for Mary Louch
and I am unable to find one in the Besselsleigh PRs.
Where did you get the date from?

Hallo Alan,
I've just checked back in the Completed Lookups, and it was you who gave me Mary's burial, from the OFHS CD you said. Your post was dated about 7th March.
The entry was for Mary HEAVONS apparently, not Mary LOUCH of course.
Hope that helps,
Nick

Hello Nick,
My humble apologies - I had forgotten about that entry and was looking
for a burial of Mary LOUCH.!!!
However, on checking again there is nothing written against
the burial for "Mary Heavens 16-12-1803" other than that quoted.
If you require more help please let me know.

Good morning Alan,
Thanks for getting back to me, even if only to say that there was no further information !
Some parishes gave a lot more information than others, but from what you say there doesn't seem to be any indication of ages, either in the marriage record or from Mary's burial.
Back to the drawing board !
It's useful to know, however, that you have the Besselsleigh PR's in case of future need.
Many thanks for your time and help.
Nick
