Hi All, Looking for anything related to the Name of NEKREWS. Though I have many names of family members, it remains patchy to say the least. I would also welcome anyones suggestion of origin of the name, which remains rare in this country and overseas. Merv in Gillingham

Hi Merv, I put the name into Ancestry.co.uk and Pembrokshire, not much for Pembrokshire, but a lot in other parts of Wales. In case you haven't got these;
Arthur Nekrews, Birth Q Dec 1872 District Haverfordwest V 11a P502
Frederick George N, Birth Q Dec 1878 " " V 11a P852
Thomas Henry N, Birth Q March 1889 Pembroke V11a P945
William Henry N, Marriage Q June 1888 " V 11a P1291 to either Mary Ann Lewis or Elizabeth Lewis
Elizabeth Nekrews Death age 48 Q Sep 1887 Pembroke V11a P502 I checked this year and that is what it says. Could the Elizabeth who died have been Williams first wife? Also 1891 Census Arthur N, born 1873 Milford, lodger, engine cleaner,living in Neyland. RG12/4532 F95 P21
1901C Arthur N 1873, Hannah N 1876, William N 1900, living Gillingham, Kent. RG13/733 F95 P24.
You may have this if not hope it helps, Regards Sue

ok, had a look at the census returns,
1861 Thomas Nekrews Sailor Merchant Service ,Border, Hakin Milford. Elizabeth Owen Laundry, " " plus others can't make out where they are boarders.RG9/4160 F97 P3
1871 Thomas b1838 Swansea , stewart on ship, + Elizabeth wife + 4 children + 2 of Eliz brothers. RG10/5523 F29 P13.
1881 Elizabeth b1841 Hubberston, Widow at Hubberston , living with children at Hubberston. This is free to see at Ancestry.co.uk. RG11/5415 F 115 P3
the 1901C is free until the end of Sept as well.
so my theory about the William in the other post was wrong.
I will gladly give you the full details if you haven't got them already. Sue.

Thanks again Sue, I will ask her in the morning. It's more than my lifes worth to wake her
The name is a pain to research, and has been mispelt in entry's at times. Nekrews Necrews Neccrues etc. All with the same parentage.
No matter how we have tried the origins are clouded in the mists of time.
