Hi this might interest you i was looking at 1881 census records for Staveley near Windermere in westmorland and came across a family living at Gowan Cottage in the village . The head of household was Alfred H Dawes aged 24 his wife Charlotte 24 and children Helen L 1 and Ivy K 1 month and presumingly Alfreds elder sister Mary H Dawes 26 born at Madley Shropshire . Alfred was born at Ironbridge in Shropshire Charlottes birthplace was listed as Wales so that may be a diffucult one to find birthplace the children were born at Staveley . Alfred lists his profession as a LANDSCAPE PAINTER !!!!

Good luck fellsman

Not particularly concerning the Windermere House but Cumbria Records Office at Kendal have a letter sent to Miss Davies of Oak Villa ,Windermere sent from Rev Reginald Mayall about his wartime experiences in Jerusalem from about 1918 you may already have seen  this but if not its in the  ST MARYS WINDERMERE parish records REF   WPR 104/172

It does not say the name of the girl it was sent to, just it is Miss Dawes , nor does it mention any Dawes family info...so dont get your hopes up ;-(

all the best

Colin
