County Home at Rathdrum - Births - Newsome
« on: Wednesday 29 April 09 21:35 UTC (UK) »

Hello

This is my first post, so forgive any errors.

My grandmother Annie Newsome was born in, or near, Aughrim in 1907 and is thought to have given birth to a daughter at the County Home at Rathdrum in 1930 (possibly November).

Please could some one give me advice on how to confirm this rumour?

I believe the Home is now St. Colman's hospital. It is also thought she may have had with her another child, Joseph, born around 1928.

Many thanks for your help in advance

Kind regards

Lee Wild

Thanks very much for the reply, but it's a bit early on in my search to be sure of a link. This may prove useful later on though. Many thanks.

familysearch has an Irish Civil index which covers BMDs up to about 1958 - see : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347

this looks to be the best match for Anne's birth :

 Name: Anne Newsome
 Reg district: Rathdrum
 Record type: birth
 date : Jul - Sep 1907
 Volume: 2 / page: 861

Rathdrum registration district covers Arklow, Aughrim, Ashford, Brittas etc

you can order a cert using these details from the GRO to find out more details - see www.groireland.ie
