Re: Matthew Revill, born Carlton on Trent about 1805, married at Newark in 1828.

Can anyone with access to Nottinghamshire parish records help me with the following:

(1) According to later census records, 'my' Matthew Revill was born in about 1805 at Carlton on Trent, Notts.  Can anyone provide further information - particularly the names of his Father and Mother and possibly siblings?

(2) I believe this is the same Matthew Revill that married Mary Ann Goodacre at Newark in 1828 (probably 18 Feb). Again, can anyone provide further information - particularly the names of both Matthew's and Mary Ann's parents and possibly their occupations? Also, did the wedding take place at St Mary Magdalene church, Newark-on-Trent?

To help resolve possible ambiguities, I will summarise what else I know about them.

Matthew must have moved to London prior to the wedding (possibly via St Neots Huntingdonshire) as he is listed as being a parishioner of St Martin's Ludgate. Mary Ann was born in Whitechapel, London in about 1803. I don't know why the marriage took place in Newark, rather than London (though I believe Goodacre is a Nottinghamshire surname, so perhaps they both had families in the area). After the marriage they lived first in Clarkenwell, London and then Edmonton, London where Matthew was a linen draper. Matthew died in Oct 1882 and Mary Ann in June 1876.

Thanks in advance

Matthew and Mary Anne's marriage was on Feb 18th 1828 as you thought, at St Mary's Newark by licence.  (Marriages CD)

REVILL seemed to be quite a common name around that time in Newark.

In 1841 there is a family of REVILL still at Carlton on Trent.  Maybe the William there aged 70 is Matthew's father.  In addition there is :
William aged 40
Mary aged 50
Mary aged 15

plus three others, different surnames, seem to be servants.

Many thanks to those who sent me information, both via this thread and also directly.

The marriage index information was useful as it confirmed the marriage details I had obtained earlier.

The suggestion about the Manuscripts and Special Collection at U Nottingham was very promising - but unfortunately their holding is not complete and they did not have the one I want.

I guess still need to get to the parish records some time to progress this

Thanks to all.
