Hello, Juan,

Are we to take it that your grandfather was born in St Pancras c 1870 & do you have any info on him that could help in a search ?  for instance, his parent's names.  Have you looked for any census info for him ?

For a first look I found this entry in the 1871 census, can this be him ?

RG10/216  folio 63  page 49

Hi Meliora

Sorry im new to all this. Yes he was born around 1870. I have a 1891 census print out but am unsure if this is him. It states birthplace as St Pancras London and at the 1891 date he was at Aldershot which would tie in with his daughter (my auntie) being born at the Barracks there. Sorry for being so vague Huh

Thanks, Carol,

Just checked the link, interesting to see our Juantoomany is a David, tying in with Robert's father on the 1871 census perhaps.?

Looking at the 1891 census record I see that Robert is entered as WELSH,  single  age 21 born St Pancras, & is a private in the 1st Batt. Queens West Surrey Regiment.    Tried to find him in the 1901 census only realise he may have been in Africa in the Boer War, so I googled the name of the Reg., looked thro' their battle medals & honours list & found the the Reg was in India, North West Frontier, 1879-1898.

You might like to look at this site.

Need your help again folks. It appears I may have adopted someone else's grandad . Having just received his marriage certificate it shows him as being 24 in 1904 married to Alice Elizabeth Limm (my granny) in Tamworth Staffordshire. It has his dads name as Robert

Hi

..... and Robert senior's occupation was?
What information about Robert junior's birthplace is given on the 1911 census. Do you have any evidence he came from London?

Hi Valda

On the marriage certificate it just shows fathers name as Robert Welsh and deceased. My auntie now in her 90s (Roberts daughter) told me her dad was from London last time I went down to visit her. Ive looked at the 1911 Census and there are a few London Robert Welsh's around 1880 but im now becoming totally baffled . I used  up my credits on a Robert James Welsh born St Pancras 1877 but this isnt him . He was a soldier and doesnt show as being with the rest of the family in 1911 although I noticed that his first child Evelyn was born in Hampshire in 1906 Sad
