Hi Heather
Welcome to RootsChat
You're doing well for two days in! From IGI at www.familysearch.org this looks a likely entry for Robert's birth:
ROBERT COOK SNADON Birth: 27 OCT 1866 in Clackmannan, Clackmannan
You are probably not picking it up on Scotlands People because of the spelling variation on the surname (one D). There are 10 children showing to Joseph and Janet on IGI between 1855 - 1873. Would probably be worthwhile searching SP with wild cards for the surname SN?D*N, sometimes the surname will be Snad(d)o(e)n.

An old post by someone also researching the same family through daughter Charlotte (b. 26 JUN 1873 in Tillicoultry):

Might be worth contacting her (if her email is still active) to compare notes.

Hello
So Monica is on the case... I'll keep out of it. Info for later
Janet Gentles Bernard was born on 14 July 1872 Tillicoutry, Clackmannan. Father: William Bernard Mother: Christina Pow (source IGI - at www.familysearch.org an 'extracted' record).
Shall post how to search for all children born to a couple on the IGI - useful for birth pre 1875. Apologies if you're aware of ths. ~~~~~~~~--------------------
To use the IGI to search for all children born to the same parents go to:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true
1. Enter father and mothers names in the 2 right hand boxes (sometimes best to have mothers first name only) 2. 'Event' select 'birth/christening' 3. 'Year' - select - type 'marriage year date if known ' 4. 'Year range' - enter - '+ or - 20 years' 5. 'Region' enter 'British Isles' 6. Country - enter 'Scotland' 7. County - enter - 'Clackmannanshire', (assumes this is the county you’re searching in - or leave all counties)
* Press enter and hopefully up will come a list :O)
A site which comprehensively explains about batch numbers etc is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#PageTitle
Give it a try - it's good for dates up to 1875. Always double check that the batch no. is the same for all of the children. Before 1855 you'll sometimes come up with only the father on an OPR - after 1855 you should have both parents always. There are also anomalies in that sometimes only children of one gender will show.....
Good luck.

HI Heather
Regarding the issue of spelling variations, it was very much a sign of the times Spellings were much more fluid in those days and not rigid as they are today. Researching in this period, you have to make use of wildcards where possible to pick up on different spellings of any one surname. As it is, the Snaddon name as you have seen for the family is not too different (one d instead of two; an E at the end instead of an O).
You can see different spellings of a surname on every document that you see!
Regarding the different batch nos. showing on IGI. Batch nos. on IGI are unique to one specific parish. Children showing to Joseph and Janet post the start of official registration 1855 - 1873 look to have been born in 5 different parishes, each one with its own batch no. on IGI.
The list of children showing:
1. ISABELLA SNADDON Birth: 27 JAN 1855 Carnock, Fife 2. JANET SNADDEN Birth: 03 JAN 1857 Airth, Stirling 3. BARBARAH SNADDEN Birth: 03 OCT 1858 Airth, Stirling 4. ISABELLA SNEDDON Birth: 13 JAN 1861 Falkirk, Stirling 5. JANE SNADON Birth: 01 DEC 1862 Clackmannan, Clackmannan 6. JAMES SNADON Birth: 25 NOV 1864 Clackmannan, Clackmannan 7. ROBERT COOK SNADON Birth: 27 OCT 1866 Clackmannan, Clackmannan 8. DAVIDA SNADDONBirth: 07 FEB 1869 Falkirk, Stirling 9. FRANCES MICHIE SNADDONBirth: 22 APR 1871 Tillicoultry, Clackmannan 10. CHARLOTTE SNADDON Birth: 26 JUN 1873 Tillicoultry, Clackmannan
