My g -grandfather, James McCall was born in Baillieston, Glasgow about 1864. son of George McCall, a head gardener, and mother Ann Galloway.
James was also a head gardener in Falkland, maybe the palace.
If anyone has these McCalls in their family tree, I would be very grateful for any info.
Many thanks Lorraine

Hi Monica,
I only have 1901 census for Newton, Falkland, giving James and wife, Christina and their children as follows; George Robert, James Archibald (my grandfather) born 1897 Catherine. There was another daughter born after 1901 named Elizabeth. She later lived in Kinross.

Hi Lorraine
These look to be the earlier censuses:
1871:
George McCall 28, Gardener Dorn Larb , b. Stair, Ayrshire Ann McCall 26, b. Barnes, Lanarkshire James McCall 5, b. Cadder, Lanarksh
Address: Turnpike Rd, Old Monkland Western District, Lanarkshire
1881:
George McCall 40, Gardener (Domestic), , b. Stair, Ayrshire Ann McCall 40, b. Maryhill, Lanarkshire James McCall 15, b. Auchinrain, Lanarkshire
Address: Gardeners House, St Ninians Stirlingshire
1891:
James McCall 25, Master Gardener (Domestic) , b. Glasgow Christina McCall 22, b. Glasgow George McCall 3 months, b. Markinch
Address: Kirk Brae, Markinch Fife
Is this the line that you are researching:
Looking for records of James McCall m Christina McCall 1800's. Son, Archibald Ness McCall born 1897 was my grandfather. He married Mary Clark Arnott. They emmigrated to S Africa 1929 ... www.cousinconnect.com/p/a/0/s/MCCALL
IGI at Family Search www.familysearch.org is down at the moment. You should be able to find the date of James' birth there when the site is back up. Also of any siblings who may not show in the censuses and likely died young given he looks to have been the only living child.

IGI is back up again
Can't see a birth for James under McCall but there is this entry:
JAMES BLUE GALLOWAY Birth: 08 JUN 1865 Cadder, Lanark Parents: ANN GALLOWAY
Parents look to have married after his birth:
ANNE GALLOWAY and GEORGE MCCALL Marriage: 30 JUL 1869 Cadder, Lanark
No other children show as born to them on IGI
The marriage cert will be available to view on Scotlands People which will confirm to you George and Ann's parents to let you trace them back to their families.

One possible birth entry for George McCall, a submitted entry on IGI, which you should be able to verify from George and Ann Galloway's marriage cert:
George McCall Birth on 10 MAY 1839 in Tralboch Burn, Stair, Ayr Parents: Samuel McCall and Marion Seaton
Lorraine, I would just keep in mind that if we do have the right birth for James in 1865, as James Blue Galloway, there is always the question mark as to whether George McCall was actually James' father

Hi Monica, Sorry about the delay. Many thanks for looking up all those records and getting back to me. It certainly seems to be the right family and the birth of James does seem a bit confusing. You are right, he needn't be George's son, especially as there is quite a long gap between his birth and George and Ann's marriage.
I will have to investigate more on this, but it is late at night over here in Oz, so will contact you again.
Once more thanks for your help Lorraine
