Harvey family of Hamworthy
« on: Friday 01 May 09 10:25 UTC (UK) »

Hoping someone can help with this query.

I found a marriage in 1784 in Lytchett Minster of a Thomas Harvey and Susanna House both of Hamworthy.  I am interested in whether this couple had any children as I am looking for a baptism of a Frances or Fanny Harvey c1791.  The family had connections with both Lytchett and Poole at this time.  So any leads on Harvey families in this area would be very helpful.

Hi,

Have you looked for her on the Dorset Online Parish Clerk site: http://www.opcdorset.com ?

There are numerous baptisms in Lytchett Minster of children from Hamworthy families.

Hi Nanny Jan,

Thanks for replying, I have looked at the Dorset OPC site but unfortunately there are no Harvey christenings in the late 1700s or early 1800s in Lytchett Minster.  Dorset OPC has very little on Hamworthy, unfortunately no BMD details as yet.

Hi Kilmartin,

The church at Hamworthy was dedicated in 1811; Dorset Family History Society has transcribed baptisms 1813-1837 and offers a look-up service.  (http://www.dorsetfhs.org.uk)

Have you tried a "search site" on the OPC site using the names you are researching?

Thanks Nanny Jan,

It is a shame the Dorset FSH don't cover earlier Hamworthy lookups as 1813 is too late to find my connection.

I will try the Dorset OPC search again but I haven't spotted an obvious connection to this family yet.

Any idea which church covered Hamworthy before 1811?

Hi,

As the church wasn't dedicated until 1811 it looks as though many families went to Lytchett Minster; when I looked at the baptisms on the OPC site there were many families from Hamworthy mentioned.

Perhaps an email to Dorset FHS will yield more information.

Good luck.
