Hello - i have previously posted this on the Leicestershire board although as i had no response i thought i would try my luck here!
I am trying to locate a marriage for William Barnes and Eliza. William was born about 1820 in Hinckley and Eliza was born about 1823 in Nottingham.
I have them on the 1851 Census living in Hinckley with two daughters Emma Barnes (Sep Q 1848) and Sarah Ann Barnes (Dec Q 1850). Emma is born in Nottingham and Sarah is born in Hinckley. Therefore it is possible that they were married in either Nottingham or Hinckley prior to 1848. Alternatively Emma could be a child from an earlier relationship.....
In 1861 they had Elizabeth in Hinckley. On Elizabeth's birth certificate it states the mother's maiden name is Eliza Hextall.
However, i cannot find a marriage between a William Barnes and an Eliza Hextall, or any other trail for an Eliza Hextall leading to a marriage to William.
Can anybody please help to unravel this for me!
Thanks in advance.
TB

RG107/867/book 8.1841,Sneton ,Nottinghamshire. William and Eliza Hextall have a brood of Children one being Eliza transcribed as 10,but when you look at the original it looks like 18....which would make her the right age for your Eliza....See what you think..

Yes - that could be a possibility!
Now we just need a marriage!
I wondered whether her mariage to william may have been a second marriage?

I think probably so. The only way to check is birth cert. of Emma or Sarah.
I have looked for marriage extensively and cant find it the closeset I have found is to a Eliza HASKELL, June 1851, in Dorset .

Yes it is strange. There are not many Hextall's getting married during the window of opportunity never mind Eliza Hextalls!
All very perplexing!

No i can't see him either.
I thought i had him on the 1841 Census although i can't find a record of it now! The only potential parent match i had for him was Josiah Barnes and Jane Barnes and a christening in 1822 in Hinckley. Not sure if that is right though! Jane appears with the family in the 1851 Census in Hinckley.

Think this is yprobably the Jane Barnes married to Josiah Barnes (you mention) in the 1841 Census in Hinkley: Josia Barnes 52 Stocking Maker not born in county Jane Barnes 52 born in county Jane Barnes 18 born in county Betsy Barnes 13 born in county Josia Barnes 16 born in county (NOTE: Josiah lives only a few doors from Samuel Barnes - also not born in the county - and ages would fit with them being brothers) 1841 CENSUS: Samuel barnes 56 Bricklayer not born in county Mary (this is nee Hackett) 55 born in county Sarah Barnes 9 born in county (same house) Thomas Holt 53 Stocking Maker born in County Elizabeth Holt 49 born in county John Holt 16 born in county Thomas Holt 14 born in county Ann Holt 21 born in county Elizabeth Holt born in county Sarah Holt 12 born in county Frances Holt 8 born in county (NOTE: Elizabeth Holt 49 nee Hackett is in fact Mary Barnes nee Hackett's sister)
The 1851 census Hinckley: Thomas Holt 24 (this is the son listed above) Elizabeth Holt 17 John Holt 4 months Frances Holt 17 sister Mary Barnes 68 Aunt (this is the Mary Barnes nee Hackett wife of Samuel and sister to thomas Holt's mother Elizabeth Hackett) Sarah Arnold 34 cousin
I shall list alittle more in the next census but I think your William is the son of William and Jane Barnes:
regards Joanne

Thanks joanne
I have discovered that Josiah Barnes was born in Ansley, Warwickshire in 1789 (christened 26/01/1789 at St Laurence). Other siblings include Joseph (1777), George (1780) and Charlotte (1784) with parents Thomas Barnes and Elizabeth Shaw (married 25/05/1777 at St Laurence, Ansley).
If Samuel was a sibling that would put him born in 1785, which would fit as there are a few gaps between the birth years of the siblings.
Look forward to seeing what else you can find out!
