Completed Burns family driving me mad!!

I have very little information on my grandmother Mary Burns.

I know she was born in Rotherhithe 1887, she had a brother John (Jack) about 2 years older.  From her marriage certificate Aug 1909 her father was James (deceased at that time).

I have found an entry in 1891 that looks good
James Burns b c1851 Bermondsey
Wife Jane b c 1858 Rotherhithe
John b c1885 Rotherhithe
Mary b c1887 Rotherhithe

I also know that John was a merchant seaman at the time of WW1 and he emigrated to Canada.  He died in Canada.

I also believe James and Jane died when Mary was quite young because she was "brought up by the nuns" presumably in a convent.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

 I can't find John in the 1901 but.......I'll post this even though it's wierd....
1901 census for .St Edwards reformatory school East ham Essex...(Catholic school)
John Burns age 15 gardener, Born Malta......Can't see John the Maltese in earlier censuses,still that dosen't prove anything!!!

Had already found the same entry in 1851.  Haven't yet managed to verify it. 

With regard to John, I wonder whether he went to sea at an early age.

Will end this post and try a different approach.
