Would he be 7-10 years old in 1901 or 1911?
Did he have a middle name??? Do you know parents names??
Do you know when he died That would give his age at death

There is a John Arthur Dring, 1911 census aged 12 months, but listed as Nottinghamshire. All the john Drings in Derbyshire are in their late 20's upwards.

Hi skewbald- that's the one i noticed too
but it seems this is a duplicate post (other post dated 23 april) - and griff doesn't seem to have any further information -so anything we find is just a guess really

well going on the Eastwood connection Suz and born 1911, I'd go for:-
HOUSEHOLD DRING JOHN THOMAS M 1907 4 Basford Nottinghamshire in the 1911.

Hi Skewy,
Seems as good a guess as any - but surely there must be more information.
it's all a little vague - possile eastwood connection - living in cotmanhay
age 7-10
john arthur is the one who shows up when cotmanhay is givn as place of residence
surely there's a siblings name - or a marriage reg - or a death reg (that would at least narrow the age down)

I agree Suz, but Eastwood and Cotmanhay, although different counties are only on opposite side of a valley as such. maybe no more than two miles as the crow flies. will wait and see if griffwarren comes up with any more detail.

hi Skewy,
A bit more than 2 miles - but both places came within basford reg district - I am in one of the places at the moment!
and John arthur is the one who shows up when cotmanhay is given as place of residence
Wonder why griff has started a new post when he hasn't any new information??
We will await a reply

Yes, I agree we need more info.
But I did say as the crow flies. Cotmanhay school to the Sun Inn is 1.72120 miles as the crow flies.

Hi - well at least it's enabled Skewy to locate the death reg - ut other than that - not of much more help .
1911 doesn't show a John who fits the criteria exactly
there are the following on 1911 census john Arthur dring age 12 mths b Heanor Derbys - living Nelson St Heanor
John Arthur Dring age 3 b Ruddington Notts liing ruddington
jack dring age 1 b. Aston terrace yorks living Aston terr swallowfield Sheffield (parents were born Clay Cross Derbys
do you know the names of any of his siblings?
Maybe you could find his marriage details (does anyone have the cert?) This would give his father's name and occupation
