family query
« on: Saturday 02 May 09 19:44 UTC (UK) »

hi !
can anyone shed a light on a query i have , i have been tracing my family and have traced a part of my family back as far as 1841 so far , my grandfather ( many greats) was born in 1800-1,
in 1841 i found his family but with no mention of his work , however in 1851 i found he was a farm owner in minety called "HAMBLETTS FARM " 103 ACRES with 3 men working for him , in 1861 he owned "BRAGDON HOUSE FARM" COPPICE CORNER MINETY, in 1871 he was no longer on the register but his wife and son (sarah and john) were on YORKS FARM, BRINKWORTH , THEN IN 1881, SARAH his wife was working as a servant in BRINKWORTH  she was by that time 76,
my question is what happened ! how did Sarah go from being the wife of a man with land to become a servant and at 76 ? it seems strange and especially as they seemed to move to different farms ,
does anyone have any ideas ! would there be any documents that i can look at to find out , any help would be gratefully accepted ,

From where did you hve the information that your relative was a farm owner???

could you post the name of your g grandfather so we can rake a look at the census

Also who is Sarah a servant for - was it maybe a member of the family???
