Appleby of Yarm
« on: Sunday 03 May 09 06:23 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Is there anyone who has access to the Yarm Parish Registers who could look to see if there was a family of Appleby's there.  I am looking for a William Appleby and siblings born from about 1747.

Thank You  Smiley

Hi WhiskyMac
Yarm is in Yorkshire, not Durham, so I have moved this to the N Yorks board.  The registers will be at Northallerton record office so you could always check with them if you do not get a reply here.

Hi WhiskyMac

I think I may be able to help you.  I am related to William Appleby who was a publican in Yarm.  He was married in Yarm in 1773.  Do you think we are talking about the same person?

If so I have loads of info.

Hi Chris,

I would like to think it is.

I have a 'family' of six children born in Eston Yorkshire who have William Appleby as their Father, but his occupation varies from being a Labourer, Publican and Husbandman.  The one reference to William being a Publican also says he is from Yarm.  Through the LDS I have found a marriage of William to a Mary Nesom 1773.

Does this tie in at all?

Regards,

Hi WhiskyMac

Yes, it does indeed tie in.  I don't have any info re his birth but he did marry Mary Neesom.  I got it wrong in my previous message, I meant to say he was a publican from Yarm not a publican in Yarm.  I don't have any info confirming that.  I presume he moved to Normanby with Mary after they married.  Mary's father John left a will which I have asked for but not received yet and I'm hoping it will give me some more info.  You may already know about this.

The information I have mainly concerns their children John and Margaret.  I believe at some point they moved to Whitby either as a whole family or just John & Margaret.  Margaret married a John Pyemon/Pymon in Whitby.  John moved to Wallsend and married Mary Laverick also from Whitby.  I also believe that two of their children died in the Wallsend Colliery disaster in 1835.  In the 1841 census Margaret is living in Wallsend with them.

Does this tally with your info???

Best wishes
Chris
