Hello Anderson

The IGI has 5 children for this couple  :O)

1. WILLIAM MILLAR Ch: 30 APR 1816 Kilsyth, Stirling, Scotland
2. JEAN MILLER Ch: 05 OCT 1817 Kilsyth, Stirling, Scotland
3 HELEN MILLER  Ch: 20 FEB 1820 Kilsyth, Stirling, Scotland
4. MARGARET MILLER Ch: 24 FEB 1822 Kilsyth, Stirling, Scotland
5. DAVID MILLER Ch: 22 AUG 1824 Kilsyth, Stirling, Scotland

Regards,   Steve :O)

Anomaly with ages on the '41 census is due to ages being rounded down on that census only, but that still wouldn't account for the variance.....

Thanks Steve you have picked up Jean that I didn't have before. How do you find the names in the IGI without going through every name?

To use the IGI to search for all children born to the same parents go to:

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

1.  Enter father and mothers names in the 2 right hand boxes (sometimes best to have mothers first name only) - in your case enter Helen Adam for mother
2.  'Event' select 'birth/christening'
3.  'Year' - select - type '1820'
4.  'Year range' -  enter - '+ or - 20 years'
5.  'Region' enter 'British Isles'
6.  Country - enter 'Scotland'
7.  County - enter - 'Stirling'                 (assumes this is the county you’re searching in - or leave all counties - sometimes best to leave all counties and then narrow down if a lot of hits.)

*   Press enter and hopefully up will come a list   :O)  it's not foolproof and there are anomalies - sometimes children of only one gender show, but it's useful.

A site which comprehensively explains about batch numbers etc is:

Thanks Steve I'll try it out. If it wasn't for the names of Robert, William, John, Mary, Jane or Margaret then I don't think Scotland would know what to call their children. As soon as I see a name such as Patrick or Theodore in the old days I had a good idea it wasn't our family. But then I have been trapped with a Charles.
