« on: Thursday 19 March 09 22:57 UTC (UK) »

Looking for information on Kirks of North Nottinghamshire (especially Clayworth to late 1700s, Everton 1790s -1820s, Mattersea 1820s to 1860s) and Rotherham (espcially Parkgate / Rawmarsh) 1860s onwards.

Hi

Was it any family in particular, or just KIRK in general that you are looking for?   It appears that there are 2 families in Mattersea area in 1851.

Cheers

The IGI shows:
1. a John Kirk baptised in Everton 7 APR 1799, son of William Kirk and Sarah.

2. a William Kirke married a Sarah Ollivant in Clayworth, Notts 2 Oct 1788.

I assume the two families you're referrring to are:

In Mattersea:
William Kirk 27 Mattersea
Harriet Kirk [nee Green] 26 Cucknal [Cuckney]
Hannah Kirk 7 Worksop
Robert Kirk 4 Mattersea [my great grandfather]
Sarah Kirk 2 Mattersea
Emma Kirk 6 months Mattersea

[William and Harriet's later children are Elizabeth c1853, John c1854 and William c1859]

In Everton:
Jonathan Kirk 57 Carrier, Everton [father of William Kirk, above]
Mary Kirk [nee Shillito] 50 Scrooby [William Kirk's mother]
Ann Kirk 16 Mattersea
Jonathan Kirk 14 Mattersea
Joseph Kirk 10 Mattersea

[Jonathan and Mary's other children: John, c1822 (Mattersea), Mary c1828 (Mattersea, possibly married Thomas Parkin in Everton and then William Ellis), Sarah C1830 (Mattersea), George C1828 (Everton), Elizabeth c1838 (Mattersea)

I've been reasonably succesful tracking these people through censuses and marriages, but haven't found much on William and Harriet's children Hannah or Elizabeth and Jonathan and Mary's children Sarah or Ann.
