Liverpool Record Office holds the records of Liverpool  ???HMS Conway became a training ship in 1859. Their records are held at the Merseyside Maritime Museum, The records of the. Akbar are partly preserved at Liverpool Library (ref/Room).
So now you or anyone else know where they are Grin Grin Grin.

Thanks Celia,

I'm sure it's a topic that will come up again, at least this thread will now provide some useful clues.

I looked at the original admittance book today, they are named first admittance. For the Union Workhouse Clatterbridge,Register of religious creed.Unfortunately the records start in 1914 with no records before that. The records finish with 1939/1944 ledger which is closed. 1914 would have been to late anyway I think.Beacause he would have been 18 by then. So back to the drawing board as we say.

I found the ledgers very interesting, because there was a lot of surnames in it that i have looked up for members. The most recent  being Shakshaft. There are quiet a few girls as well,in the bit where it said admitted, quite a few say self.Others were committed by parents.

Hi celia & odessa

Thanks for all your help, I will email the Liverpool Library and see what information if any they have available, I can only hope that I can confirm that it is my Grandfather, it would explain why there was so much mystery surrounding his life. I will also send one of Alfred's children the link to the akbar as I am sure she would be most interested in reading that, as she would like to find out more about her father. The journey continues, once again thank- you both for all your help, I couldn't have found out all this information without you both.

Hi

Do you have any Clacks from Oxfordshire on your tree?
I'm trying to locate a baptism for Charles Clack Kencot Oxfordshire. It would be abt 1732.

Thanks

Hi Maureen

Welcome to rootschat
I haven't done much research on the Clacks family, as far as I know they were only in the Wiltshire area, sorry I can't be more help.
