« on: Monday 04 May 09 10:38 UTC (UK) »

James Archer b 1807 Romsey Hampshire, married Letitia Golding in Whitchurch Hampshire on 05.04.1928. They had 3 children, all born in Whitchurch, Hampshire.
Henry Golding Archer 1828
Mary Archer 1830
George Archer 1831.
In the 1841 census Letitia is living with her 3 children.
Letitia re married in 1843 to a John Cleverley and had 2 daughters.
I can`t find anything about James Archer 1807. He must have died for Letitia to re marry but i can`t find a death.
Please help.
Any info on the above would be greatfully appreciated. I have nothing on Henry 1828 either.
Regards, Nicola

Hi Nicola,

James died in 1835.  He is recorded as James Orchard, aged 28, buried 15 Feb 1835.

Henry seems to have been baptised without the Archer name: Henry Golden baptised 27 Jul 1828.

Do you have James and Letitia's parents' names etc?  Do you need those?

Thanks for that info. I think the parents of James were James Archer and Elizabeth Roberts.
Not sure about Letitia.
Anything would be great

James was born 7 Dec 1807 bapt 10 Jan 1808 in Romsey, parents James & Elizabeth Archer

James Archer & Elizabeth Roberts married in Chilworth 13 Dec 1804.

I don't see another likely marriage at the moment.

Laeticia Golding was b 1 Apr 1807 baptised 3 May 1807 in Whitchurch, parents George & Elizabeth Golding.

This couple seem to have married a few years previously, since I can see other baptisms for the same couple.  But the marriage is being elusive. Sad

Thank you very much for this info. Why would Henry not have the Archer name and what happened to him?

Why would Henry not have the Archer name

Possibly clerical error, but I am working from a transcript.  I would recommend that you check the original if at all possible.  Usually if the mother's maiden name is given to the child, it indicates illegitimacy, but in this case Henry was certainly baptised after the marriage.

What is the last sighting you have of Henry?

The last sighting was the 1841 census and he was known as Henry Archard. He was living with his mother, Letitia,  brother George and sister Mary. They were all transcribed as Archard.
Many thanks for your help,
Greatly appreciated,
