I am helping a friend in OZ research Robert PEARSON father of John (1781), Ann (1784), Sal Pilbin (Sarah) (1786), Jesse (d.1789), Edmund (1790), Raymond (1793), Allen (1795) [and possibly Leonard (1797) but this child may not be Robert's] all baptised Westham, E Sussex. The mother of the children [including Leonard] was an Elizabeth, no maiden name given. Elizabeth was widowed before 1810.
A big ask....
Does anyone have any information leading to confirmation that [1] these parents Robert & Elizabeth were the Robert PEARSON & Elizabeth THORPE [born 1762 in Fletching daughter of Thomas THORPE & Sarah DICKER] who married in South Malling in 1779? [2] the Robert PEARSON buried 10 May 1809 in Bishopstone is the Robert father of the above children? [3] either of the above were Robert PEARSON baptised 27 Sep 1748 in Bishopstone son of Robert d 1768 aged 50 & Elizabeth died 1761 aged 42 [4] that Robert PEARSON father of the children ever served in the army?
Many thanks, Josey

Hi Josey
First of all a search on the Sussex Marriage Index only brings up Robert Pearson and Elizabeth Thorpe married at South Malling 9 February 1779.

Have you checked The National Archives site to see if Robert served in the Army. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/ There are quite a lot of records on there now.

I've checked the Westham PRs on the SFHG database and can't find Robert Pearson baptised anywhere there. My instinct is telling me that Bishopstone is a bit far away but if he is the only one it could well be the right one.

Hmm the Robert baptised at Bishopstone 1748 is the only one I can find, however it should be noted that the SFHG database is still not complete.
But it looks likely that Robert was born in Bishopstone and from there married in South Malling, and from there they went to Westham where they had their children before going back to Bishopstone. That second bit I am not so sure about and I think the Westham PR needs checking for burials just to eliminate that as a possibility. Unfortunately it is neither on the above database or on findmypast.

Wow, thanks for doing all that, Kerry.
I'll definitely check the National Archives. It may prove to be not possible to confirm all these suspicions, but every lead is worth following and more & more suitable connections found all tend to point in the same direction.
Thanks again, Josey
