FRANCIS AND ELLEN REILLY FROM LOUTH/ARMAGH HELP PLS.
« on: Monday 04 May 09 13:29 UTC (UK) »

Hiya,
i'm new to this and am stuck looking for family from Louth and Amagh, i have a Francis Reilly b1876 from Louth who married in 1890c to a lady called Ellen b1872 from Armagh. They had 3 children all born in Armagh, Maggie b1892, Edward b1894 and Mary 1896, before they moved to Liverpool, they then had 4 more children in Liverpool, Catherine (kate) was my ggrandmother born 1898, James b1900, Thomas b1902 and Peter b1905.

I have tried Family search, Ancestry etc and wondered if anyone on here may be linked or know of the Reilly family in Louth or Armagh. I have found them in Liverpool on the 1901 and 1911 census but cant go back any further.

Any help at all would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance,

neet

Am wondering if your dates are correct- if Frances Reilly was born 1876 he'd only have been 14 in 1890 (and 18 in 1894 for the birth of what you say is the first child).

IGI on LDS site (www.familysearch.org) has some not all Irish borths 1864 (start of registration) to c1882. Ancestry has next to nothing as regards to Irish records so it's not surprising that you've had no luck there either.

The birth certificate for any of the children will list Ellen's maiden name and with her full name you can then search for and then order the marriage certificate.

Ive only just noticed that.  Shocked    I worked the dates out from the 1901 census before i found the 1911 census.

1901 census states Francis is 25 and Ellen is 29.

1911 census states Francis is 38 and Ellen is 44.

Its definately the same family as they still live in the same house with the same kids +2 and the kids ages are the same.

Now i'm even more confused lol.

Ages in census records are often incorrect but suspect Francis might be a bit older than he actually put on the returns. Think your next step is to get birth certificate for one of the children to get Ellen's maiden name so you can locate their marriage certificate- suggest one of the Irish born children if possible so that you get the exact place (townland) where they lived).
