Roderick McLennan Hill of Fortrose 1841
« on: Sunday 14 June 09 04:47 UTC (UK) »

This young McLennan working for Abraham Forbes on The Hill of Fortrose may be the same person known as Roderick McLennan who  worked at Ballindalloch Farm, Banff Shire in 1851. Roderick, born at Redcastle C1831 married Elizabeth Stewart at Inveravon in 1851 & migrated to Australia the same year. Unfortunately Roderick, age 28. was killed in a tragic accident in Victoria in 1859. Following the coronial inquest the coroner failed to record the names of Roderick's parents on the Death Certificate. Also, there are  no undertaker records available.
There was one young Roderick born in Killearnan (Recastle) in 1831 who married a Beaton but is not our Roderick. It's like looking to try to find a "needle in a Haystack".
Hopefully, someone may be able to offer suggestions in helping to locate Roderick's family & the names of his parents.

On 1851 census: Roderick Mclennan born Redcastle 1829 address is Milltown of Findon, Urquhart & Logie, Wester
father - Alexander aged, 45 mother Ann aged 40, Roderick 22, Ann 10, Margaret 5, and George 9months. It gives Roderick,s occupation as being at school but that cant be right unless he is a teacher!

Many thanks for the particulars of marriage. My Roderick McLennan, age 19, is the one shown on the 1851 Census working on  Ballindalloch Farm, Banff Shire. I have no other links. His birth may or may not be in the IGI. Identifying his parents, if ever, seems insurmountable-but I can only hope.
