Link: Takeley & Lt Canfield on-line Parish Register transcripts
« on: Thursday 12 February 04 08:39 UTC (UK) »

The Rector of Holy Trinity Church at Takeley has transcripted the PRs for Takeley and Little Canfield and made the databases available on-line.  If those who find the databases useful or of interest sent him a thanks email he would no doubt consider his hard work rewarded.  The address is:

http://holytrinitytakeley.moonfruit.com/

The church site can also be accessed through the Takeley Family History Society site:

Link: http://tlhs.org.uk/ , this brings up the Takeley FHS home page

Click on the "Takeley Genealogy" button and on the page this brings up there is a link to Takeley Holy Trinity Church database.

The databases can either be opened or downloaded in Microsoft Access or Microsoft Excel formats, the largest database, Takeley Baptisms, takes only a few minutes to download.

Since my original posting of this link in February 2004, more entries have been added to the databases.

The address of the Takeley Family History site has been changed, I've now corrected it in my original post of  12 Feb 04.

This is the direct link to the Takeley & Lt Canfield PR transcripts:

http://holytrinitytakeley.moonfruit.com/

Would those who use the transcripts please consider sending an email of thanks to Rev Laurie Bond, there is a email contact facility attached to the site.  I think we need to show appreciation for his hard work, it will also perhaps encourage him to keep the site going.

If only Hatfield Broad Oak would do the same Sad

Hi Ruth,
Pleased to hear you've sent a thank you to Rev Laurie Bond.

Don't forget that to be safe you need to get any info such as dates etc gleaned from the transcripts confirmed in the actual PRs.  A few errors have been noted, e.g. a transcriber was confused with the old style of handwriting in the PRs where a capital F was written as ff, so some people with the name ffewell (Fewell) are shown in the transcripts as Jewell.

Regards.

Thanks Findem,I'll keep that in mind. I've already had a reply from Reverend Bond saying thank you for thanking him and good luck with my research. I think that was very nice of him.

Hi Ruth,

I've contacted the Rev Bond several times during the last four or so years and I get the impression that he is a very nice obliging person.

Hi Findem

I have just seen your entry on Rootchat regarding Takely registers, unfortunately I do not have the excel/Acces programmes and wondered if you could do me a favour and look up the baptism of a Susanna Bolden @1858. I am trying t find the names of her parents.

I have been unable to find her in the 1861 Census.

Many Thanks

David

Hi avidt,

First let me apologise for not answering your request sooner, I'm pretty sure I had no notification of your reply to my Takeley post in the Essex Resources section.  I don't go into Essex Resources very often, I went in this time because I had a notification regarding one of my other posts in that section and happened to notice the blue "new" flag on the Takeley post.

21/5/1836 at Takeley, James Boulding a Bachelor of Takeley, married Charlotte Stanley a Spinster of Stanstead Deal, Hertfordshire, Witnesses John Stanley & John Bird, the priest was Edward Harbin

Here are the baptism dates for the children of James and Charlotte Bolden:
Anne 7/3/1841.
George 7/8/1843.
James 7/9/1845, born 9/7/1845.
Susan 5/9/1847.
Elizabeth 30/6/1850.
William 3/10/1852.
Sarah 31/12/1854.
Jane Charlotte 30/5/1858.

The earliest Bolden entry on the Takeley transcripts was James the son of William & Mary Bolden who was baptised 12/1/1840.

In case you are interested there is a marriage for James the son of James and Charlotte, he married Elizabeth, Vale, aged 19 on 13/10/1866 at Takeley, the entry stated the groom's father is James Bolden and the bride's Jonathon Vale.  Witnesses Charles Enefer & Mary Ann Vale, the priest was G C Tufnell.

Also two daughters of James & Charlotte were married at Takeley, the entries named the father of the brides as James Bolden.
5/6/1865 Anne Bolden married John Stanley, his address given as Takeley.  Witnesses: James Bolden & Mary Bartell, priest was G C Tufnell.
15/5/1875 Sarah Bolden married Arthur Matthews.  Witnesses: James Bolden & Elizabeth Bolden, the priest was Robert Hart.

Regards.
