I have a copy of a letter dated March 17, 1921 from L. McAnulty, 1 Church St., Newry to her cousin, Nell McSephney, Springhill Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada. I am trying to find the forename and maiden name for L. McAnulty. I believe that her mother and my great grandmother Margaret Hannah nee Dougherty were sisters. I am also trying to find the full name of L. McAnulty's mother.
In a 1962 letter from Maureen McAnulty b. 1919 in Newry, she states that her grandmother (name unknown) died in 1921 and that her mother died 10 months later in 1922. Maureen also says that she had one brother, name unknown, b. 1917 and that he had 12 children born between 1945-1961. She also said that her father remarried and died in 1959. Her father's only sister Sarah died in 1961. Maureen's father may have lived at 70 Stream St. Newry. Does anyone know his first name.
If anyone can fill in some of the blanks, it would be greatly appreciated.

'L. McNulty'- first name could have been Lizzie (short for Elizabeth), etc. Have you tried searching for McNurltys in 1911 census?

As far as I can determine L. McAnulty wasn't yet married in 1911. I have checked the 1911 census to try and narrow the search using Sarah McAnulty and the addresses listed above but nothing conclusive. I don't think that the L. stands for Elizabeth as a letter refers to Lizzie Moore living in Drogheda with her husband and two boys. Her death was after the dates used for the pilot project on Family Search so that was a dead end. Maureen's birth was on the pilot though. If I was able to obtain her birth certificate, would that give me information and how would I go about getting the birth certificate.
I know that Margaret Hannah nee Dougherty had a sister named Elizabeth born about 1866, who could be the mother of L. McAnulty, and a brother Peter born about 1868. Peter died in infancy. Margaret was the oldest of 6 children. I have looked for marriages for Elizabeth Dougherty (and alternative spellings) but have not come up with enough information to warrant spending the money on certificates.
I am hoping to have a breakthrough on a name so that I will be able to research further.

There are McAnultys in Church Street today - but that's Church St in Warrenpoint, which is about 10 miles from Newry. It's a family firm of funeral directors at number 35 Church St.
Try www.192.com to see this.
There were McAnultys at CHAPEL Street in Newry.
McAnulty from South Down is one of my own research interests, albeit my dates are a bit before your own. For example, I have these marriages:
- in 1888 between William McAnulty and Lillie Adams in Newry
- in 1900 between William John McCullough and Lilie McAnulty in Newry.
(Note, though, that "Newry" in this case means the Registration District, which was more than the town, in fact more than even the parish of Newry.)
I also have a Lucy McAnulty born in 1868 in Warrenpoint, Newry.
McSephney is an interesting, unusual name. Have you tried tracking down the immigration records for that name, to see if they give clues as to the family left behind in Ireland? (Mind you, I think it's a Scottish name.)

I had checked out the McAnulty's that you mentioned but couldn't find anything definite.
I copied the mailing address exactly from the letters from L. McAnulty and Maureen McAnulty. I don't think the family lived at the address on Church St. for a great number of years. From what I can determine, L. McAnulty had not been married many years and was quite young when she died. Her mother was only 55 when she died in 1921. Her husband may have lived in England for a period of time. My greatgrandparents Abraham Hanna and Margaret Dougherty were born in Desert (Newry) and Donaghmore around 1860, were married in Scotland in 1880. Nell (Ellen) Hanna married William McSephney in 1903 in Scotland. Abraham, Margaret and all of their children (except Matthew) including the McSephney's immigrated to Canada in 1904. I haven't found any siblings for Abraham but have tracked him back to Desert. I found two siblings for Margaret and that is the connection to L. McAnulty. I believe that L. McAnulty's mother is Elizabeth Dougherty but can't find any way to confirm it.

L.McAnulty could have been named Lillie which is often a nickname for Elizabeth. It's going to be difficult to trace her without having an exact name.

I have gone back through all the information that I have on L. McAnulty in case I missed something. The way the letter reads, it appears that Lizzie Moore is a sister to L. McAnulty as it mentions her sending money to L. McAnulty's mother. That is one of the reasons that I don't think the L stands for Lizzie.
I know that L. McAnulty had 2 children, male born around 1916-1917 and Maureen born in 1919. I know that L. McAnulty's husband had a sister named Sarah so I went back to the 1911 census and looked for Sarah and found residents of house #16 in Burren, Warrenpoint Rural. There is a Patrick listed that would be in the right age group, 15 in 1911 so that would make him 20-21 in 1916-1917 which is when I think L. McAnulty married. On the pilot project through Family Search, there are a few marriages for a Patrick McAnulty that are under Belfast and Newry. Also Maureen is listed on the same sight, born 1919. If I try to get the birth certificate for Maureen and marriage certificates for Patrick will that give me information that I can follow to try to determine L. McAnulty's line. How do I go about getting the certificates. Any help would be appreciated. I keep forgetting that places are so close in Ireland. I live in Canada and villages and towns cover large areas. What appears to be small farms are building lots here in Nova Scotia.

Hello all
has any kind person on this forum got any information on a John McAnulty? all I know about this line is that he had a daughter named Margaret, she married in 1856 (Mathew Moorhead) -believe the family were from the Banbridge/Seapatrick area.
any help appreciated

This may only confirm what you already know.
1 March 1856 Matthew Moorhead married Margaret McAnulty in Banbridge Civil Registrar's office, Seapatrick Parish, Banbridge. Fathers were Andrew Moorhead and John McAnulty.
