Looking for further information for a George Dawson who married a Rebecca Barton. I believe George was born about 1865. he had 2 brothers that I know of Edward and Arthur. Now George had a son James abt 1920 (Jim) and apparently James had 13 brothers and sisters. Can any one shed some light on this family? Branching out!

Hi Branching Out,
Is this the family in 1901?
1901 RG13/3205 6 3 Melbourne, Nottinghamshire Station Road 4 rooms occupied George Dawson, head, 30, Waggoner on Farm Rebecca, wife, 22 George Harry, son, 11 mo
All born Derbyshire Melbourne
Marriage George Dawson to possibly Rebecca Barton Dec 1896 Shardlow 7b 923
George's age seems to be 44 in 1911 - 6 children in the household (George, Arthur, Edward, William, Ena, Frank). Searching FreeBMD for Dawson children registered in Shardlow with mother's maiden name Barton, there are 6 more between 1913 and 1925 (Leslie T, Sidney J, Phyllis M, Jim, Jack, Stanley)

George Dawson in 1871 - maybe you already have this? RG10/3552 106 26 Melbourne, Derbyshire New York - Moira St George Dawson, head, 50, Ag lab, b. Melbourne Mary, wife, 43, b. Kent Lenham? Emily, dau in law, 11, Nurse, b. Melbourne (I found her as Emily Langridge in 1861) Edward, son, 7, scholar, b. do. George, son, 5, scholar, b. do. Arthur, son, 1, b. do.
George seems to have been previously married to a Dorothy.

This must b the right family, 12 siblings, and yes George was married to a Dorothy prior to Mary I believe. Mary's last name was Langridge and I believe her fathers name was George. I would be curious to know if Emily was a sister to Mary or If Mary had a son prior to being married and Emily was his wife. you show her age as 11, was that a misprint do you think on the census? This is certainly the right family, is there any sign of them in other census years?

Hi Tati I guess I'm a little puzzled, I always find that when you get the infomation you want you do not expect to see unfamiliar names thrown in. I am totally intrigued by the fact that there was an Emily in the household and as I have never been able to figure out who Mary's parents and siblings were, I am very curious to know who this Emily is as she may be a crucial link to finding out more on Mary (Langridge) Dawson. I really want to thank you for the information you have passed on already. Any further information that you can supply on Emily, I would certainly appreciate it.

Here's the 1861 census for Emily for a start:
1861 RG9/2489 64 21 Melbourne, Derbyshire Thomas Barefoot, head, 57, Ag lab, b. Derbyshire Ticknall Mary, wife, 53, b. do. Selina, dau, 11, scholar, b. Melbourne Emily Langridge, lodger, 1, at nurse, b. do.
... and George and Mary
1861 RG9/2489 63 20 Melbourne, Derbyshire New York Moira Street George Dawson, head, 40, Ag lab, b. Melbourne Mary A, wife, 34, b. Kent Lenham Fanny, dau, 15, Glove Stitcher, b. Melbourne
Funny that! George and Mary were married on the very day of the census!!
The IGI has their marriage: George Dawson (father Edward Dawson) - Mary Ann Langridge (father George Langridge) 7 April 1861, Melbourne, Derbyshire

Hi Tati So much information, thank you! Where to begin in asking further questions, do you have access to 1841 or 1851 to see if you can spot George with his father edward or Mary with her father George?

I've spent ages trying to find Mary Ann in 1851 and 1841 but I'm getting nowhere ... I hope someone else can see what I can't
George:
1851 HO107/2140 335 34 Melbourne, Derbyshire Moira Street - New York George Dawson, head, 29, Ag lab, b. Melbourne Dorothy, wife, 24, Glove Stitcher, b. Belper
1841 HO107/191 22 54 8 Melbourne, Derbyshire Calke Mill House George Dawson, 20, Male Servant, born in county
in the household of Francis Woodward, Farmer
There doesn't seem to be an Edward Dawson old enough to be George's father living in Melbourne in 1841.

Hi Branching Out,

1901 RG13/3205 6 3 Melbourne, Nottinghamshire Station Road 4 rooms occupied George Dawson, head, 30, Waggoner on Farm Rebecca, wife, 22 George Harry, son, 11 mo
All born Derbyshire Melbourne
Marriage George Dawson to possibly Rebecca Barton Dec 1896 Shardlow 7b 923

In the 1911 you indicated the children that were listed, what were the ages of these children.
Thanks

Hi Tati
I did not realize that we could search 1911 for free. I will follow up on some of these names.
