COMPLETED Derr Blonde Grey matter needs help
« on: Tuesday 05 May 09 09:14 BST (UK) »

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can please explain to me

a) what the button "#" is on these text boxes.  (It is labelled 'insert code')
b) what is its purpose
c) why is it there
d) how to use it please
e) any other things I ought to know about it.

Please keep answers simple cause I'm ummm derrrrr blonde with grey flecks and having a long senior moment trying to figure out "#" when its here at Rootschat.  I thought it meant "hash" as in adding up and arriving at a sum total etc.

Just Moi, getting muddled - yet again, or still!

Somewhere last year I saw a thread in the "How to use Rootschat"" and it had all the explanations of the BBC tags along with your code button and Rcers could practice on the thread,  but I haven't seen it since.

It's a way of inserting and viewing text which would otherwise be interpreted by the BBS software.

If I typed {u}Hello People{/u}

but with square brackets instead of squiggly ones, it would be seen as

Hello People

which would be useless if I want people to see the code.

But if I put {code} at the front and {/code} at the back, (but with square brackets again), it becomes.....

Code:

[u]Hello People[/u]

Does this explain it ?

Hi Vous - mais Je suis Moi

As I said the code # show you how to enter some piece of code in your note so that it will show as the code so that someone else can understand how to enter the same thing if they want to. Do you know you enter a URL so it will be blue
rather than
http://www.rootschat.com/help/posting.php

Code:
[url]http://www.rootschat.com/help/posting.php[/url]

http://www.rootschat.com/help/posting.php

In that case you get the same result

Code:
[url=http://www.rootschat.com/help/posting.php]SITE[/url]

Then you should get
SITE

Aha.............so, if I'm getting this right

When I see posts with 'site' in blue, they've hit the hash button, put in the link (code) then hit hash again and it comes up as the blue SITE..............!!!

Is that right??
