Falkland Islands "Desire The Right"

Hi
I think it says : New Town
N = the same as N in Navy. e = same as e in "Surgeon", or "Majesty's" or "being" (the latter word as written after "Navy".
Cheers AMBLY

Hi
Thanks so much for your help, New Town is what I had but I thought I may have made a mistake as apparently there is no New Town in Portsea or perhaps the mistake I made was making it Newtown
Much Appreciated.

It does look like New Town, doesn't it. Then it says in p[ar]ish of Portsea in the County of Southampton.
I wonder if the records office in Portsmouth may be able to assist here. Perhaps an e-mail asking if they know if any area of Portsea was ever known as New Town around that date.

I've just had another look - it's not the parish of Portsea but the Isle of Portsea. I really should wear my glasses.
New Town is near the Haslar Hospital site across the harbour - but it isn't on Portsea Island or in the parish or Portsea. So it is a very peculiar way to describe it if it is the one in Gosport.

Yes - there are some separate parishes.
Newtown in Southampton formed from South Stoneham and St Mary in 1853, so I don't think that can be relevant; Newtown formed 1851 from Soberton and Hambledon - again, probably not relevant; Newtown near Burghclere, which is up on the Berkshire border.
None of them can be said to be located on the Isle of Portsea.
I'm a bit mystified by this one.
