james craymer of portsmouth b1802
« on: Thursday 30 April 09 19:01 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for any information on  James Craymer (maybe various spellings)   or his family, as far as I know he was born in portsmouth around 1802, he was a bootmaker by trade and married Ann Goodyear (again maybe different spellings)  possibly in London but I don't have a date, he was living in parts of London, Lambeth, Kennington as all of his children were born there.
I believe he died around 1869 in Lambeth, but I would like to find out where he lived in portsmouth, when he moved to London and any details of parents and sibling's.

Many thanks for any help you can give me,
Alan

Hi Alan,

James Creymer, born 30 May 1802, baptised 24 Jan 1806 Portsea, parents Anthony & Mary.

His brother and sister were baptised the same day.

Elizabeth was born 1 May 1797, John was born 17 Aug 1803.

There was another Elizabeth baptised 14 Jan 1795 (name spelt Cramer) - but I don't see a burial for her  Sad  In fact I don't see any burials there at all for this surname.

No idea where they may have lived.  The registers at this date rarely include place of residence.  Perhaps they moved to London soon after 1806?

Hello Nell,

Thanks for that, on his daughters marriage certificate his name is spelled Craymer so I assume it is the same person as I have come across several different spellings.  Its good that I now have his parents names which will open further research, seems that he was the middle of his siblings then.
Do you by any chance know the dates and locations of his parents residence, I know its a long shot but I wondered if there may have been a Naval connection.

Regards,
Alan.

No, sorry, I don't.  Sad  Moving to Kennington strikes me as at odds with any possible naval connection, but I could be wrong.
