Hi

From the 1851 entry - can you provide details of the names and birthyears of any children born before 1841 to help in the search

Where was Richard born?  That should show where they were around 1841 with luck.  Can't find a birth for him on freebmd at the moment but there are so many possible spellings.
Andrea
Edit - see it was Heathfield so they should be there somewhere!

the only Muggeridge or similar spelling in the Parish (1841) were a William and Mahalah, with a son Summer !

I can't find them either.   Perhaps checking the church baptism records for Father's occupation at that time - maybe they moved away occasionally?  He was an Ag Lab in 1851 so seems unlikely though.  Heathfield comes under Hellingly census registration district in 51.

Hi All

Thanks for looking (could they have been missed off the census is it possible!)
I also cant find one of  Harriet's sister's or one of her brother's
Louise Mascal born 1817 she missing from the 1841 census but is living in Heathfield in 1851
and James Mascal born 1815 is missing from the 1841 census but also living in Heathfield in 1851.
I have found Lois Muggridge she married George Maskell in 1853 have sent for the marriage cert.
I'm thinking they may be lst cousins, she is a servant living in Etchingham on the 1851 under Louisa but no trace on the 1841 census.
Mother (Sarah Mascal) is living in Wadhurst with 2 sons (John and Alfred) plus a couple grandchildren in 1841 but living back in Heathfield in 1851 with Louise (Mascal) Homewood.
John wife is living in Heathfield with l son in 1841.
Thomas Mascal the father I cant find no death!
Elizabeth Mascal born 1823 is in the house of correction in Lewes in 1841 census.
I'm sure they must be in the area! perhaps they were sleeping under a hedge that night!
If Richard Muggeridge was born 1839 under Uckfield and not Hailsham - Heathfield is usual Hailsham area - what is covered under Uckfield!
On the census Richard Muggeridge was born Heathfield.
Thanks again for looking.
It nice to tie up some loose twigs if I can!!
Regards
Sue

Hi Elvisrocks and welcome to rootschat
Do your family come from Sussex?   If not then you need to put a request on the correct county board giving as much detail as you know about the family without mentioning any living people.  Don't worry too much about spelling.  It varied a great deal in the past as many could not read or write so they could not check what the vicar or registrar wrote down.
regards

Hi Elvisrocks

Welcome to rootschat.
The spelling of names changes a lot.
Do your Muggridge come from East Sussex area if they do - let me have some dates and I will look at my records.
My Mascall/Maskell side have married into the Muggridge/Muggeridge several time all in the Heathfield East Sussex area.
Ann Mascall married a Richard Muggridge in 1780
Harriett Mascall married George Muggridge 1830 (I believe that George is the son Richard and Ann)
George Mascall married Lois Muggridge 1853 (Lois father is George Muggridge)
I don't have update info on Muggridge - only back from 1901.
