James Scott - Evangelist/Fisherman - Stotfield, Drainie
« on: Monday 27 July 09 20:44 UTC (UK) »

Trying to find out more about a James Scott who was married to Janet/Jessie McLeod. His occupation on their daughter Jane's marriage in 1873 to Wm McKenzie is an 'Evangelist'. His address is given as Stotfield, Drainie, in the County of Elgin. I cannot find the birth of the daughter (Jane), nor James' birth. Totally stuck. Can anyone shed any light?
On the daughter's death certificate her father's occupation was now a Fisherman. What exactly did evangelists do in those days and would there be any parish records?

Hi

There isn't enough info in your post to enable us to find this family on any census

To check for births we need to know when and where the people were born.  We have James birthplace but not his approx birthyear

Where and when was Jane born?

If you have the family on any census would you please post full details of the entry

Hi again,

Sorry for lack of information! I think Jane may have been born 1849 and she married a Wm McKenzie. Other children of James were Christina, William, James. There may have been more.

www.familysearch.org - free website

JAMES SCOTT    Spouse:  JANET MACLEOD
Marriage:  17 SEP 1837   Drainie, Moray

This is a submitted IGI record so not always reliable

Could this be Jane aka Janet

Janet Scott   Birth:  1847   Stotfield, Drainie
Father:  James Scott    Mother:  Janet Mc Leod

I was just searching around in Google and found the above link! Near the bottom is James Scott, the 4th child of William Scott and Christina Young. I think this could answer a lot of questions... I would need to confirm the info of course!!!
