Please can someone help, I am trying to find the ancestors of George Heald born c.1821 the Census records have him from Palterton and he married Sarah Ann Millward. The IGI has given me several possibilites for parents and siblings from both Palterton and nearby Bolsover but from where I live I have no way of looking at the Parish Records. Thanks in advance Liz

Liz, Welcome to rootschat.
Have you thought of seeing in the 1851 census where he says he was born?that should narrow the field a bit for you.
If you don't have acess to the census [ and sorry I don't either ] you could ask for a lookup from another RCer..

Hi Charlotte
Thanks for your reply.
I have indeed seen the 1851 and all the other Census's and have gone forward quite well getting birth, marriage and death certificates where necessary and I now have a good picture of how our family developed from my great-great grandparents to the present day, of course still with a few omissions in places.
I have now hit a brick wall with going back before 1837 and the start of the BMD Register. Unfortunately the Parishes my great-great grandfather and his ancestors came from are not on line, all the records are held in Matlock which is a long way from where I live.
I am new to this website, what is a RCer...?, maybe they could help.
Regards Liz

Hi Liz
Can't really help you but it would look as though William and Elizabeth were George's parents.
If you Google for Heald quite a few sites come up. One of them is:
http://www.healds.org.uk/
I don't know if you have looked at this.

Thanks Di
I think William and Elizabeth could be too but it would be nice to confirm it.
I will certainly have a look at the website to see what I can find out.

Hi,
I note your George Heald born (according to most census records abt 1825) is married in Allestree however the church record on IGI gives no parents. The Marriage Registration is December 1845 Belper 19 429 - does this certificate give name of his Father? (assume you have purchased this).
In the 1841 Census, living in West Row, Darley Abbey, Hundred of Morleston & Litchurch is HO 107/188/2 Folio 11 Pg 17
George Heald 45 Cordwainer born Derbys Hannah " 45 not born Derbys George " 15 Cordwainer Born Derbys Hannah " 20 Cotton Spinner " Catherine 15 " " Jane 15 " " Sarah 14 " " Ann 10 " " George 3 " (Ages of children aged 15 is because Adult ages were rounded down by up to 4 years on this census) On the site Yesterday's Journey http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/.
is listed the following removal order from Scarcliffe to Chesterfield in 1830 RM7/1532 George HEALD, Catherine wife, Hannah, Catherine, George, Jane, Sarah. to Chesterfield 1830.
Consider that the above named children (as listed on 1841 Census above) are the children of George Heald = Catharine Unwin 4.10.1819 Bolsover.
Hannah wife on 1841 Census is possible 2nd marriage, and the children of this marriage could be Ann 10 and George 4.
Darley Abbey is very near to Allestree and both are within 2 miles of Derby. The girls would have been working in the Cotton Mill in Darley Abbey owned by the Evans Family.
I cannot find George & Hannah in the 1851 Census, but think this is him in the 1861 RG9/2496 Folio 92 Pge 8 St. Alkmund Parish, Derby born 1795 Bolsover.
Hope this is of some assistance. Spendlove.

Hi Spendlove Thanks for the info, I found the Yesterday site very interesting reading. I had never heard of Removals before..! I also didn't know that ages were rounded down, I wondered why there were so many 15 year olds in one family...! The George to which you refer is probably a cousin of my George who we think was the son of William & Elizabeth.
I have been looking at the Heald.org site which another Roots Member told me about and I am gradually sorting out who begat who.

Hello Liz,
I am confused re your posts, you say you are looking for a George Heald = Sarah Ann Milward/Millward, but following my post of the 7th May you stated that this George was a cousin of the George you were seeking.
Do you not think it odd that two George Healds married a Sarah Ann Millward?
When and where did your George marry Sarah Ann Milward?
The George Heald you are seeking you have a birth date of 1821 where is this from, I assume a census entry, could you give the Census reference which contains this approximate date of birth.
All indication from Census the 1841 as previously posted suggest that the George Heald = Sarah Ann Milward was born abt 1824/5 Paulton/Portorton/Potton/Plttarton (spelt differently in various census) was living with his Parents as posted in 1841 and after his marriage to Sarah Ann as follows:-
1851 HO107/2144 Folio 26 Pg 8 Civil Parish Allestree, Derbyshire Occupation Cordwainer Born Portorton 1861 RG9/2506 Folio 6 Pge 6 " " " " Ag. Lab, " Chesterfield 1871 RG10/3577 Folio 11 Pg 15 " " " " Lab. Carter " Palterton 1881 RG11/3408 Folio 15 Pg 24 " " " " Ag. Lab " Polton
Sarah Ann Heald died Dec. Q 1881 Belper 7b 314 (Allestree came under Belper Registration Dist)
George Heald then married Hannah Wait June Q 1882 Belper 7b 947
1891 RG12/2741 Folio 16 Pg 1 Civil Parish Markeaton (but still in Allestree) General Lab born Paulton living with George and new wife Hannah is John Waite step son.
George Heald died March Q 1900 Derby 7b 405. Aged 76.
Perhaps if you could post the names of the children of YOUR George Heald, with info about which Census you have found them we can try to sort out your problem. Regards Spendlove.

liz this george heald is father to george heald born 1825, and george born abt 1796 parents are anne fox and george heald and the heald site shows the george name going further back too. if you look to the side of where george heald 1796 on the heald site you will see 1851 census in pink, click it you will see george living with his daughter and husband millward. i think he was in the 1861 census with another daughter. karen
