Baptism please - GRACE
« on: Wednesday 06 May 09 14:14 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Am looking for baptism for a Charles Grace, around 1802-1807. Census shows birthplace as Leighton Buzzard and another for Leyton?

Many thanks and kind regards

Virtually all of Beds baptisms pre 1812 are on the IGI. There's no Charles Grace. However there was Henry and Eve Grace who baptised three children 1800-1804 at Leighton Buzzard. I wonder if they might have been his parents. Charles had two children named Henry in 1851, which is taking naming patterns a bit far!

Proving it is another matter though.

Henry age 39 was buried at LB on 14 Feb 1817 but I can't see what happened to Eve (perhaps she was the one who married Thomas Major in Bucks on 25 Aug 1817 and who was buried age 46 as Eve Mayjor in LB on 8 July 1821). Henry and Eve had a son David who named one of his sons Charles. Circumstantial evidence but not proof!

Did the three baptised sons of Henry and Eve marry? Who were the witnesses? If you're lucky Charles might have been one of them. Have you traced Charles marriage to Louise? Who were the witnesses there?

Hi,

I have Charles' marriage to Louisa and the only witness was her brother Edward (and the other witness was the church member - I believe they eloped?? but not sure).

I will see if I can find out the other sons marriage details of Henry and Eve and see if Charles was a possible witness.

Thanks for your help and advice.
Much appreciated
Kind regards
Susan
