Christopher PICKERING 16th century CLEASBY
« on: Wednesday 06 May 09 17:30 BST (UK) »

Hello
I hope someone can help me.  I have the copy of a will (dated ca 1542) of a Christopher Pickering who claims to be of Clesbie which I'm assuming is Cleasby.  His will gives the following information:
- son Christopher
- daughters Winifred and Mary
- first wife buried at Coniscliffe, second wife having occupation of his lease of Clesbie for life
- brother John.

Can anyone tell me anything about this family?
regards
Deborah

Carol
Thanks for the replies.

My interest in the Pickerings ends with the 17th century and if the testator Christopher is the man I think he is, then I do not believe he has any 'Pickering' descendents beyond that time.

The Christopher Pickering in your first reply did not have any (legitimate) sons so I assume my testator is not a descendent.

I know asking for information is a bit of a long shot.  I was hoping I suppose for an expert on Cleasbie who might know about property holdings and transfers in the 16th century or have looked at manorial records etc etc
regards

Hi

I know what it's like to be stuck on Pickering's.  Don't know if Cleasby is anywhere near Beck but this is my hubby's earliest Pickering I know he's a generation later but who knows he could be a distant relative  William Pickering c1578 in Beck in the parish of Ebberston, Yorkshire.  William died in 1638, aged abt 60.  Very likely to be William Pickrin Bapt 11/9/1578 father Henrici Pickrin/Pickeringe.
