Just found out that the Local Studies section in the main library in Aberdeen has the 'Library Edition' of Ancestry on it's computers. Sessions are limited to 2 hours but it is totally free!!

I think you'll find that most main libraries have free access, which is excellent for those who can't afford subs  Smiley  You can usually see the full GRO bmd index too (not sure about Scotland though).

Hi,
Does ancestry.com have the same uk coverage as ancestry.co.uk? (Are they related?). I am thinking about a subscription but .com is more expensive and I mostly need uk records.

As far as I'm aware the coverage is the same, and yes they are related. I have only used it so far for the various Scotland census and so it might depend on what you are after.

Beware though some of the transcriptions of the census that I have seen are not the greatest with some glaring errors, probably down to the transcribers not coming from the UK!!
