Hi Janey
Andrew Blain is showing in 1861 as born in Port William, Wigtownshire c. 1838. 1871, with a slightly earlier birth year of 1833, birth place simply Wigtownshire. 1881 and transcription a bit messy, but possibly Glasserton, Wigtownshire, c. 1833.
If you have a look at his marriage cert. it will include details of his parents' names including mother's maiden name. www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

HI MONICA;
Thank you very much for your reply,, will give it a shot at 'S/P' having the 'Wigtownshire' area is a good clue, but I wonder how they got to 'Ayrshire' from there and then 'Glasgow',,,, Wonder what the 'occupation' was,,?
Andrew was a 'Carter' in 'Milton/Dist' that seems to have been a 'common' occupation in those days,, 'son Andrew C.Blain' also a 'Carter' married my 'grt,grt, aunt 'Margaret Bushe' who had a 'Confectioner's-Shop' in 'Maryhill',,,
Appreciate your help & time,Andrea,,,
Kind regards;
Janey;

Hi Janey
Immigrants from Ireland frequently ended up just across the North Channel in the Scottish county of Wigtown.
Many such immigrants to the SW of Scotland, for employment and other reasons later moved north to Ayrshire, and then, further to the "Big Smoke" of the West of Scotland, i.e. the City of Glasgow, as well as the counties of Lanark and Renfrew, but it was Glasgow where the main opportunities for employment existed.

Hello Janey,
Yes it looks like Andrew C. Blain. was born most likely Glasserton, Wigtown. to parents John Blain, and Catherine Fraser/Frazer.
As the previous poster pointed out if you get his marriage to Mildred Hutchison, that should prove his parents names.
If this is correct then his parents married 26/July/1832. Mochrum, Wigtown.
Regards, Jonn.
