In early March I posted the following on the Scotland-Fife board with very limited results. I did get one pm recently with some information about James Kidd's parents and siblings.....much appreciated.
Previous post: "I have just started researching my grandmother's family in Scotland. This is what I know so far.
James Kidd (b. abt 1856; d. 1902 in Dysart, Fifeshire, son of James Kidd and Margaret Terrace) married Elizabeth Brodie Skinner (b. abt 1853 in Kirkcaldy, Fifeshire, daughter of M.S. Skinner) in May of 1881. They had the following children:
Catherine Brodie Skinner Kidd, b September 1881 in Dysart (my grandmother). Catherine emigrated to Canada in 1907 and married Albert Doling in Regina, Saskatchewan. They had 4 children. Catherine died in Regina, SK in 1955.
Margaret Terrace Kidd, b. December 1885 in Dysart. Margaret married William Davidson, cabinetmaker, son of William and Georgina Davidson in December 1910 in Kirkcaldy. Margaret died in 1962 in Kirkcaldy.
William Skinner Kidd, b. February 1891 in Dysart.
Helen Simpson Kidd, b. May 1892 in Dysart. I am most curious about descendants of Margaret, William and Helen. I would be most appreciative of any information. Thank you."
I have since found my great-grandmother Elizabeth and great-aunt Helen (Nellie) Kidd on the 1911 Canada Census. They were in Regina, SK with my grandparents, Catherine and Albert Doling.
Helen arrived in Montreal on May 1, 1911 aboard the Ionian. It appears from the notation on the manifest that Elizabeth was to have been travelling with Helen but for some reason was not on board.
Elizabeth arrived in Halifax about a month later on June 3, 1911, aboard the Parisian.
I have also found an entry on the 1916 Census for Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba for an Elizabeth Kidd living on Kelly Road/Street in Lumsden, SK, which is a community close to Regina. The age and other information are a good match so maybe this was my great grandmother.
This is where the trail goes cold. I cannot find them on passenger lists returning to Scotland so what became of Elizabeth and Helen/Nellie? My mother b. 1913 never spoke of her grandmother or aunt Helen so I really don't think they were in the Regina area when my mother and her siblings were growing up.
Also, what became of my great-uncle William Skinner Kidd b 1891? Did he remain in Scotland or emigrate also?
I would appreciate any information or advice. What happened to my Kidd family? Are there any descendants out there?
Regards, Susan

Thanks, Lisa.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything there either.
Given Helen's young age, there is the definite possibility that she married and may have left the province.
Perhaps I will get lucky and someone on this great site will have some information.
Regards,
Susan

Susan:
Elizabeth and Helen/Nellie could have sailed home; their names could have been transcribed incorrectly. Are you able to search for Elizabeth, without using her surname? It takes a long time, but I've done searches just using the first name, approximate date of sailing and approximate age.
Have you tried contacting Margaret Terrace Kidd's descendants? They may know what happened to the family.
Did Elizabeth and Helen/Nellie arrive around the same times as a birth in the family, or for some other family situation? If so, they could have returned home, after their visit to Canada. If not, perhaps they sailed for Canada, fully intending to stay in Canada.

Hi Lisa
Some good ideas/suggestions....thanks.
Elizabeth and Helen arrived in Regina shortly after the birth of Catherine and Albert's first born, Alice. Catherine and Albert had 4 children between 1911 and 1915. Maybe Elizabeth and Helen were just visiting and I should be concentrating on Scotland. I will further search the UK Incoming passenger lists for them again.
Unfortunately, I don't know the names of any descendants of Margaret Davidson. My grandmother did stay in touch with her and travelled back to Scotland to visit in 1937. To my knowledge, Margaret did not come to Canada but I will double check the passenger lists.
Must get to bed. This hobby keeps me up far too late at night. LOL

I found a death for William Kidd, son of James Kidd and Elizabeth Skinner who died 25 May 1910 in Kirkcaldy at ScotlandsPeople. His sister Maggie was the informant. One mystery solved. I've sent you a PM regarding this, by the way.
Are there any traditions in Scotland marking the first anniversary of a death? Perhaps Elizabeth didn't want to leave Scotland until after a year had passed from William's death.
