Hi Stephen

From the Sussex Marriage Index

27th Jan 1812,Dallington,East Sussex.

Thomas Piper & Philadelphia Sweatman.

Thomas was from Brightling,a Widower

Philadelphia,a Spinster from Dallington.

If you have a map, Dallington is west from Battle & Brightling is  just up
from Dallington.

Hope this helps

Hmm I've had a look at the SMI and I wonder if that widr is correct, I can't see any other marriages for Thomas unless it is Thomas Piper and Elizabeth Weller at Beckley in 1798.

Had a quick look at the baptisms database on the SFHG website and the only one that I could find was Thomas Piper baptised at Battle in 1763  Undecided

Hi Kerry

I have checked & double checked the marriage info for Thomas`s marriage.

I did spell Philadelphia`s surname wrong,it should have been Swetman.

But its definitely on the SMI i have.

Or have i lost the plot!!!!!!!!!

Think i`d better get out of bed a differant way tomorrow Smiley

I think the original needs a look if at all possible.  He could of course, married outside Sussex first time round.  I looked for a burial too and couldn't find one of those either.  Undecided

I have a marriage in Brightling where the husband is said to be a widr but again no first wife found or a burial.  Perhaps they lied!!!!

Thanks all,
I havn't got Thomas PIPER birth cert yet, I need to verify it better. All I have is Thomas b1787 Sussex m1812c Philidelphia Setman (Swetman) b1790 Sussex. I have only found one child:- Henry b1815 Dallington m1840c Ann Waters b1814 Sussex. They immigrated to Australia not sure when yet, but they died 1891 and 1873.
Also Im looking into signing up for a subscription somewhere, can anyone tell me which site is great.? Ive been with Genes.

If the majority of your ancestors are in Sussex then the Sussex Family History Group are cheap to join and have a great database of baptisms and soon burials.

Thankyou for the info on thomas Piper etc.  Im looking for his wife, Philadelphia Swetman/Setman b1790c Sussex. Unfortunately thats all I have on her.
My ancestors are scattered all over Brittain from Lancashire Wigan to Cornwall and some in Scotland and then theres a line in Ireland. Ive been looking into the Genealogist subscriptions, but if anyone can tell me where value for money is, that would be great, as Ive found Genes Reunited are seriously lacking.
Thanks again

This IGI submitted entry might be worth exploring further - as there is a date there may be some truth in it!

Philodelphia Sweetnam born 27 DEC 1788   in Brightling parents Thomas Sweetnam and Lucy Venes

Jan Wink

There is an extracted entry for a marriage of Thomas Swetman to Lucy Venes on
23 SEP 1787 in  Brightling
