Cause of death
« on: Thursday 07 May 09 12:25 UTC (UK) »

My great aunt Margaret Matheson born 1876 in Elgin
died at the Union Bank Ardrossan in 1901 aged 21
How did she die an accident, did she work at Bank
Any ideas.

Have you looked at her death registration on Scotland's People? That should give both her occupation and her cause of death.

Hi Jen,
Not found her death on S.P.  looked at a few Margaret's
not found the correct one, ran out of credits need to buy some more.
Found her on 1891 census working in net factory in Elgin
Oh she would have been 25 in 1901 not 21 as I said in my first
post

Seems to be something odd about Margaret as none of the family knew of her I found her by chance the oldest child of my great grandparent's, my mother who is still alive says she never had an aunt Margaret.
Regards

Hi Ev,
That sound like it could be her, though Moray archives gave her death as 1901.
Yes it was Ardrossan Ayrshire she was born in Glasgow although
her parents Alexander Matheson and Jane Simpson came from
Elgin. Alexander and Jane married in Govan, they moved back to Elgin when Margaret was an infant and all the other Matheson children were born in Elgin.

had a look at moray archives
and indeed her death there is given as 11/ dec /1901
but if you click on the info icon(to see where the info. came from) then
click the newspaper icon -

ns      death              15/12/1900     page 1 column 1

perhaps this date is her burial or the date it appeared in the newspaper but
one of the dates are suspect
