Withers baptism, Swinethorpe
« on: Thursday 07 May 09 13:56 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone have access to Swinethorpe, Lincs baptisms for c. 1779 please.
I am looking for parents of George Withers who died at Westborough (Doddington) 26 Jan 1865 aged 86. a Groundkeeper of Newark at time of marriage in 1802.  1851 Census gives Swinethorpe as birthplace. Any help appreciated.

It's actually juuust in Lincs - map http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=487500&Y=369500&A=Y&Z=120

The parish was Eagle with Swinethorpe which would put it in Lincs.

Thank you Geoff E.  Must admit I was lazy and only googled Swinethorpe, Notts and it came up as such. Looks as though I may have to go to Lincoln which is some treck from Gloucester!  I need his baptism before I can look for parents marriage perhaps in Phillimore.  Anyone doing Eagle with Swinethorpe?

There is no WITHERS marriage in Vol.4 of Phillimore's

Eagle
Doddington
Skellingthorpe
Bassingham
Thorpe on the Hill
Heckington
Carlton le Moorland
Stapleford

As it's so close to the boundary, I suggest you ask in Notts anyway, perhaps linking to this thread.

Swinethorpe is an extra parochial parish of North Clifton, notts.  Withers is a name that dates back to the mid 18th century in Harby, Notts.  It is also found in the hamlet of Wigsley, about a mile from Harby.  I have a will , late 19th century, for a Withers and details of a WW1 death of a a Withers WW1.

I have only just found this wedsite, I don't know how it works,  I hope this gets to you,

Thank you Owl Cottage.  I see that Harby is next to Eagle with Swinethorpe so there could be a connection.  What date is the will please?  Any George or William Withers mentioned?
