I have a James Featherby in my family born c 1796. On the 1861 census he is recorded as being born in Fawnton Nottinghamshire. Can anyone help me find this person in Nottingham. His father may have been Samuel Featherby who is reported to have come from Northampton. Thank you

I cannot find a James Featherby b Nottingham - even using James (and no surname) - it very much looks like your james was b northampton
I don't think there is such a place as Fawnton in Nottinghamshire.
Note -elizabeth's county of birth is wrong in 1851
Hope this helps

Looks like james' death reg freeBMD James Featherby sept qtr 1865 Downham 4b 255
I can find an Elizabeth Fotherbysame age as james wife - who was b and died in Nottinghamshire - but she was married to george
So i think it looks pretty certain your james is the one b Northampton in 1851 - don't you?

Thank you.
I have the 1841 and 1851 censuses. It's just that we seem to have hit a dead end here and I was grasping at straws!

I expect you have this marriage too
IGI extracted
james Freatherby Elizabeth Morley 5 nov 1827 oxborough Norfolk
i cannot find any featherbys listed as b Nottingham in 1841/51/61 (except your "fawnton" error) There are some b Nottingham in later census
neither can i find any b Northampton except for Samuel and James
have you put a request on northampton board -explaining that samuel and son James both state b Northampton - but james p.o.b. is given as fawnton nottinghamshire in 1861
state that they both lived and died in Norfolk - James married there in 1827 - and see if anyone can find anything in parish records - I would also apologise for it being a vague request - but explain that is all you can find - nothing on IGI re births in northampton
