Hello,
In the June Quarter of 1891 Edward Etherington mar Ellen Cassell b 1870, but by 1901 she was a widow, back with her parents and two young sons in Stoke, Guildford.

I haven't yet found her husband's death so I don't know how old he was or anything else.  I suspect that he also came from the Guildford area. Could someone do a lookup in 1891 for him, please?

There are several possibilities in 1891 but only one death I can see

Edward Etherington 65 Sep qtr 1895 2a 8 Epsom District (covers Stoke D'Abernon is this the Stoke you mean?)

Have you already ruled him out?

Well, Ellen was born 1870 so unless she married a man very much older than herself then I don't think that is him. Both Ellen's children were born in Guildford Reg Dist. The Stoke is Stoke next Guildford.

No, Wendy, I don't have the 1891 Guildford Reg Dis marriage cert yet, but it looks like I am going to have to bite the bullet to have any chance of finding out who Edward Etherington was.

1871 Census
Henry Cassell, 23, mar, farm labourer, is living alone in Guildford, Surrey. RG10/811/11/15 it says he is born Wortimes but all other census say Mortimer, Berkshire
He must have moved to Surry alone at first.

Hello Trish,
I am not quite sure what happened to Henry Cassell's relationship with Mary Ann Lambden after he married her in 1869. Either he was working away from home as you suggest or she had left him for a while. In 1871 she is with her parents in Mortimer with the two girls. I have them both after that in 1901 and 1911. No more children. 
Dau Agnes was bap in Mortimer, Ellen in Stoke next Guildford.

I didn't have Henry in 1871. (or 1861 although I have him in 1851)  Thank you for that reference.

Yes, I have Henry in 1881. Thank you.  Mortimer is where a lot of my father's descendants came from.  Henry Cassell was my great grandmother's brother, one of 15, who all bar one survived and married all over the shop.
