Conqueror's Forests
« on: Tuesday 24 November 09 16:37 UTC (UK) »

Hello All,
I've seen a vague sketch of William's forests in England as they were in the 13th C. There are no towns or villages marked on it, but the sketch shows a point adjacent to Riseley as the southernmost extent of the Rockingham Forest at that time.
A more detailed c1612 map shows Rockingham Forest as having shrunk to a point some 12 miles north of Riseley.
Does anyone know if the Conqueror's forests in the early years covered parts of mid & south Beds? I'm wondering if they originally bridged the gap between north Beds & Epping Forest.
Cheers
Bob
